Compilation of TESC Course Equivalencies
#41
Thank you so much for the chart, very helpful! I was looking into taking Human Resource Management.

I am majoring in Liberal Arts from TESC and saw someone state that they got this credit for general education elective. How is it possible if it is a business credit?

I updated these charts today to include new Straighterline course equivalencies and the ECE info provided recently. I listed Nutrition and Pharmacology as free electives because I don't know where they fit....If you know how these are classified, please let me know.

SandraNC,

TESC does not award credit for developmental courses. You are most likely correct about NUT-101 being a free elective.

What do you make of the developmental courses being listed as worth 3 credits on the Straighterline site? Do you think this is Straighterline's mistake? Transfer College Credits To Thomas Edison State College (TESC) - StraighterLine

I know, I looked at that too. Probably has to do with ACE awarding 3credits for the courses. But remember, it is up to each school to accept/or not. If you remember, similiar to aleks beginning algebra, ACE awards credit, which TESC at one time accepted and then changed to developmental. I think that decision had a lot to do with folks trying to use beg algebra to fill their math requirement (which was a mistake given its level) but that's only my opinion.

Until we know more, I updated the list with a ? for credit-awarded on the Pharmacology courses.

For explanation on Developmental courses see pgs 9,40, and 42 http://www.tesc.edu/files/DegreePlanningHandbook.pdf
Obviously TESC does not consider the SL pharmacology courses to be of college level, hence the DEV classification. And to this I will have to say, good for them. Pharmacology is much too complex a subject to be taken through a basic SL course.

Does anyone know the TESC equivalency for the foreign language exams from NYU or BYU?

go to tesc's tab "student services" and open the advising pdf. Page 32 says "New York University Foreign Language
(NYU)
Foreign language proficiency testing is offered at the
beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in 51 different
foreign languages. Exams are scored from 0-16. The score is
equivalent to the number of credits given, starting at 101
and 102 for beginning language, 201 and 202 for
intermediate and 301 for advanced language credit.
This exam is designed for native speakers or for those whose
proficiency is comparable, so no study guide is available. For
additional information students can contact NYU at
(212) 992–9060
Exams can only be taken at NYU in New York City or at
Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey.
A repeat option is available after six-months."

Is there such thing as BS/BA's at TESC you can completely "test out" of? If so, any threads that list them?
