I tried this colon cleanse procedure for the first time about 2 weeks ago. Man, was I disappointed. I was expecting to see tons of waste and toxins coming out of my body but nothing came out. And I know I have a lot of crap in me, no pun intended. I actually felt scammed at the end of the session. However, I'd still like to try this again a few months down the line with a different practitioner before I make my assessment of this procedure.
Anybody else have experience with this?

Taylor,
I agree wholeheartedly with Jennifer. If you want a cleanse, just add a lot of fruits and especially fibrous vegetable to your diet for a few days. The added fiber will clean you out well. That seriously uncomfortable feeling you get when water is flowing up your backside is your body's way of saying "what are you doing to me!" I do have experience with colonics and a lot of other "alternative" therapies. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Fruits and vegetables are the way to go if you want to cleanse your large intestine. It seems many people think that a colonic is going to release some kind of putrid pasty spackle like compound that has been building up for years and their health will improve. The reality is that your colon is nowhere near that bad. Now, I have known patients that literally defecated once per week. I have no idea how they even function and recommend they do exclusively fruits and vegetables for a few days and add some probiotics and some other supplements to their diet.
Regular bowel movements should occur every day or at least every other day, in my opinion. If not, usually (but not always) the diet is to blame. Clean up the diet and clean up the colon.

Those were my expectations. Even though I've been eating better this year, I know my history of eating processed foods must've left a mark somewhere in my insides. Some people swear by colonics, even well known celebrities which is why I thought I'd give it a shot. I just wish my first colonic was done by somebody more professional and not somebody so "GETTO"...I purposely misspelled ghetto because this person deserves a misspelling. I guess even though I feel like I wasted time and money on this colonic, I am thankful that my pooper is still good.
One of the main reasons I tried this was because my New Year's Resolution was to get back in shape and live a healthier lifestyle.
Thanks for your comments.

How old are you? Fifty or older? Go get a colonoscopy. Between the diet and that disgusting stuff that they have you drink, I don't think my colon was that clean when I was born. On top of that, you get the good feeling of knowing that you're REALLY doing something for your health.

Why am I not surprised that a pseudo-scientific procedure promoted by pseudo-scientific quacks who specialize in scamming people, didn't work?
But wait, it didn't really "not work" right? Because since it is quackery it is subject to redefinition at any time by whoever is *cough*takingyourmoney*cough* performing the procedure, right?
BTW if you want to really have your eyes opened about "alternative medicine" read the book Charlatan. Seriously, look it up on Amazon right now. It's about "Doctor" Brinkley in the 1920s and 30s. He single handedly modernized patent medicine, fought the AMA, fought the law, was a major force in making radio popular, was the first to use an airplane to campaign for governor, created the "border blaster" radio stations over the Mexican border to broadcast his scams, and to boost listenership introduced America to this thing called "country music."
I'm not kidding, this is a fantastic read, and you will never look at this kind of thing the same way ever again.

ok, in the sources to trust category, you can put your doctor and your mom. In the sources that you can not trust category, you can put wikipedia and celebrities.
That said, I'm not your mom or your doctor, but your colon is working fine and "cleaning" is a social construct. Fear of being dirty is a multi-billion dollar industry
Consider that the cells in your colon are always turning over (dying and being replaced) so you essentially get a new colon every few years. The fact that people who develop colon cancer sometimes are too far progressed before they are symptomatic is BECAUSE the cells grow so quickly. In other words, there is no hidden waste. It's all being changed out. So even if you've eaten poorly, you can turn it around with immediate results.
Also, your small intestine's job is to pump water INTO the stool, and your large intestine's job is to dry it OUT. Flushing your large intestines with water is NOT a good idea. Your ghetto technician probably has less medical training than my cat. In fact, I even know one such technician. She used to be a massage therapist and childbirth ed teacher locally, now she opened a shop peddling vitamins, colonics, and juices. <roll eyes> I'd classify this type of "health" as woo.
Eat more broccoli. Move more. The end.
Edit: P.S. I second the suggestion to get a colonoscopy. My mom died of colon cancer in 2009, so I had my first at age 40, but you can do it any age if you're willing to pay.

I probably won't try this again. It was very stressful signing these release of liability forms much like you would sign at a doctor's office except the person that is putting a speculum in your rectal area is far from a doctor or even a nurse, at least in my case. Colonics must not be heavily regulated in the United States because the practitioner I went to was really dumb. She asked me, "Are you still spectacle?" I think she meant "skeptical". Then when I asked her questions about her background, she said "You need to give me props, I've been doing this a long time." I hope she goes out of business.
BTW I am in my early 40's but 50 seems like right around the corner...sigh. So far I've been sticking to my resolution and been working out like a manimal. I guess I will add more fruits to my diet. Thanks.
