Nervous about DSST Principles of Supervision.....

Westerner, you should do well on Supervision. I think you are ready to pass it. You have studied and done well on Management and 82% is a good score for a practice test. When I did Supervision, my practice tests were also in the low 80s and I did fine.

You did well on the Management CLEP so I doubt you'll have much problem with the Supervision DSST. There's just a little more to study for, some of which overlaps with Human Resources Management. I've taken all 3 and found many similarities between them.

What are some key differences between Clep Management and Dsst Supervision? I just passed management and have 2 hours till my Dsst exam.

Main Differences:

-Supervision is easier (covering a less in depth set of materials)
-Supervision is a DSST so there are four multiple choice answer choices instead of five like on CLEP

But really it is a huge overlap of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (which is 60% of the DSST exam and one part of the CLEP). Basically it is a lot of the same information and information which is more generic and more about "roles of a supervisor" than about more in depth and complicated things. With a passing score on the more complicated exam I don't think you'll have any trouble passing the DSST for Supervision.

Question: when the DSST talks about “Supervisor,” they mean the lowest level out of these, right = {supervisor, middle manager, top manager}? Like this: How to Identify Upper, Middle & Supervisory Levels of Management | eHow.com So I’m supposed to think of how a Supervisor (and not just a top manager kind of person) would handle the situation? This seems like a basic question but I’d like to be sure!

It all depends how the question is worded, and what the answer choices are. When differentiating between supervisors, imo, ALL are supervisors, but how they supervise is different. Line Managers/Supervisors- Use more technical approaches because they are dealing mainly with getting tasks done, Middle Managers/Supervisors - Use a combination of technical and conceptual skills to manage, They have to balance their workloads to make sure tasks get done but also move toward the companies goals. And top managers are mainly conceptual, looking at the business as a whole and not at each individual task. They worry more about the companies plans, objectives, and how to get there.

If anyone thinks otherwise, please correct me, for this is what i have learned from my studies.
