College Math or Algebra 1 - Help
#1
I dislike math and need to take one of these tests, college math transfers as MA 101 for 6 credits for me and alg 1 transfers as MA 102 3 credits. My question which one is easier? I am good with mental math but anything past that I have not used for 15 years. Any ideas?
Thanks.

You are asking people who don't know you at all to suggest what math you should take? That you dislike math is too vague for us to respond.

I have two suggestions:

1. Use the search feature, then use the knowledge you've gained from that to ask more specific questions.

2. Tell us more about your math background, such as your familiarity with logarithms, the quadratic equation, and set theory (unions and intersections).

If you decide to take College Mathematics, you absolutely should NOT take the Peterson's practice tests for it. Peterson's practice tests are generally pretty good, but the ones for CLEP College Mathematics are absolutely terrible and not representative of the actual test at all. This is a great resource for preparing for College Mathematics: Free College Mathematics CLEP * Exam Study Guide If you decide to take this test, you are only trying to pass, not make a perfect score. Don't waste your time studying complex numbers. The effort level is too great - you'll pass without knowing how to do them.

Are DSST tests an option? There are DSST tests over the same two mathematics subject areas.

They are plenty of people who want to help you. Help us help you better.
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

I have a bunch of math credits because I did several ALEKS courses (Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Statistics) plus I did the CLEP College Mathematics test. I found the CLEP test the easiest, but you do need a broad range of knowledge for this test. The ALEKS courses on the other hand were very convenient. You just sat at home on your computer and plugged away until you were done.

I guess I would say which would be easiest to cram for with no background use or education.
Yes dsst is an option aleks is not, and math 140 business math only counts as an elective for me.
Thanks for the info.

I have done Alg I and II, College Math, College Algebra, and Statistics. Send me a PM and I'll try to work with you to see what your actual level is and see if we can't figure out which might suit you better. I'm not "expert", but I can try to assist. Smile Cheers!

Why try and cram? I would try taking ALEKS first. For $20 you can't go wrong. I did Int Alg and just finished Col Alg yesterday. Starting Trig as soon ACE gets my credit. Hoping to finish that one this week then move on to Stats.

I'm trying to decide which one to take College Math or Alegebra. I've never taken Trig, or Calculus. For the last three weeks I've been using IC and studying REA College Math Prep and this stuff is still kcking my butt. Just yesterday I started studying Alegebra again and a lot of the concepts started coming back to me. Its been 15 years since I was in High School and I've struggled with math in college. Any suggestions when it comes to which math to pursue? I'm quite rusty in this subject and this is all I need to graduate. All help is welcome for an old student.
