The ECE tests don't get too much attention here. The ECE tests seem a little meatier than the CLEPs and DSSTs for the most part. Some of the tests, like American Dream, give very few A's(that test has a 70% pass rate). Psychology tests range from a 55% to a 87% pass rate. Some pass rates are below 50% The technical bulletin linked here gives the test score breakdown for many of the ECE tests.
According to this technical document the 6 credit Upper level Education course on Literacy Instruction In Elementary School has an over 90% pass rate! I think this qualifies as an outlier! This test is also the most taken of all the Excelsior tests I looked at with somewhere around 5000 examinees. These 2 facts alone should bring in near the top of the list as new exams are added to Instantcert flashcards. I know not many people find it enticing and the $355 price tag is more than other tests, but it is worth looking into. I have the texts and will probably sit this one in August.
The less expensive $95 ECE tests have made Psychology, Social Studies and Liberal Studies degrees easier to test out of on a budget. I am going to steer clear of any ECE tests that have below 70% pass rates for the time being, whatever the price!
Check this document out before you sign up for any ECE tests.

Darn! Wouldn't you know I'd try to view the web site when it was closed for weekly maintenance? Thank-you for the info. I'm looking forward to reviewing it when it's available.

I think I am going to sit for this test in Jan. I'm looking for UL Lit courses. Don't you think this could count for a literature concentration. Why do I get the feeling I might get the run around for this class?
And...I think I can I think I can I think I can!!

This is a good bit of research. You probably already know in your heart of hearts that an education class for teaching children won't count as literature any more than a childrens' education class in any subject

Great source of accessible UL credit though.
edit: Looking on EC's website, it seems the ECE is classified as Applied Professional :/

This is a worthy cause. I would earnestly petition to get all 6 sh counted towards UL literature, but if this didn't work, suggest 3 sh of them towards UL literature as a compromise. Charter Oak splits GRE tests all over, ACE splits credit recommendations from numerous sources, etc.
I'll guess this may well be be the one course in children's literature in your concentration in literature. Shouldn't they have the heart to let at least one count? Maybe even expect one ideally. And it only makes sense that it puts the literature it in the context of child development and education; that's the context in which children are reading and there are differences there and the differences deserve some special attention.
