What is the main difference between CLEP and DANTE, if any?

The main difference that I noticed is with Dantes you have four available choices for an answer and with CLEP, you have five.
DSST:

clep exams are always considered lower level - L
Dantes exams have both upper and lower - U , L and of course dantes have 4 options to choose from and clep has 5

The other big difference I think is that DANTE started out as a military thing, it was Department of Defense, where as I think CLEP was just civil. But yes DANTE does upper and lower level and CLEP just lower.

And the other difference is simply the subject areas covered. A lot of CLEPs tend to center around basic core subjects--math, science, foreign language, basic history, etc. DSSTs will sometimes cover more specific areas (i.e., the Vietnam War is an entire DSST test, not just a few questions on a U.S. history exam) or more "elective" type things.....World Religions, Race to Save the Planet, etc.

This difference doesn't concern the exam format or subject matter - but, EC gives letter grades for Dantes exams based on the score you achieve. For anyone looking for boost a lagging GPA (ok me!) that could be a big plus.
Also, I love the four answer choices versus five.

I also feel that for some CLEPS and DSSTS, the DSSTS may be a little easier. That may be because there are only four choices instead of five and also you have more time. I was told that the CLEP college alegebra is harder then the DSST Alegebra CLEP.

You do have more time with a DSST but I prefer CLEPs 'cause DSSTs have an annoying tendency to have vaguely worded questions, in my grumpy opinion.

I would agree will that...all in all, I would say that CLEPs are easier than DSSTs. Even though CLEP has 5 options per question versus 4 for DSST, 2-3 of the answer options on the CLEPs are usually obviously wrong and sometimes utterly ridiculous, where the DSSTs tend to be more tricky with the answer options....just my opinion...
