***I am not an agent of Excelsior so please contact an advisor to confirm anything you read here. Also, there policies are subject to change. This is just my understanding based on conversations from an advisor. I've read a few posts on here re: double majors and double degrees. It seems that a lot of people are confused about the policy at Excelsior, and so was I until I got some information from the source. I'll try to explain the policy here.
The short answer is, YES, you can do a double major. However, you need to understand there is a difference between a double major and two degrees. In order for you to do a double major, the subjects need to:
1. Be from the same program
2. Be discrete areas of study
For example, I am doing a double major in Literature and Psychology. I could not do a double major in, say, Journalism and Media Studies, as those two subjects have too much overlap. Additionally, I could not do a double major in Accounting and Philosophy... this would be two separate degrees, as one of them is from the Liberal Studies program (Philosophy) while one is from the Business program (Accounting.)
The good news is that I could get a degree in both Philosophy and Accounting. This would not be a double major, but rather two separate degrees, that would be printed separately. Excelsior allows you to do two degrees as long as they are from different programs.
It would be possible (confirmed by Excelsior) to do the following program:
B.S. Liberal Studies, with a double major in Psychology and Literature
AND
B.S. General Business (or any other degree from a program different from your first degree)
(I don't know if you could do a double "major" in the Business program because it may not have majors; it might have distinct degrees based on subjects... you'd have to ask them)
I hope I am clarifying that a major is different from a degree. A major, or double major, is a designation that is placed upon a degree.
To summarize, Excelsior does allow double majors, at least for the Liberal Arts program. You'd have to ask them about other programs.
