Cheapest online certificates??
#1
Does anybody have suggestions for an online certificate in marketing or hr management? So far the cheapest one I have found is an undergrad cert in hr management from American Public University for $250.00 a credit hour.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hello PMC2009.

I'm not sure I understand your question fully (meaning I didn't want to speculate) but since you didn't elaborate, I'll take my best shot.

My first question to you will be, "Why do you want an undergrad certificate and not an undergrad degree?" You could easily get an undergrad degree at one of the Big 3 for less than $250 per credit hour--Marketing or HR Management. Plus, I believe a degree is better than a certificate in any employer's eyes. Probably with the exception being any Computer Information Systems certificates such as MCSE or A+, among others.

However, many community colleges offer certificate programs with many options to choose from. I would first check with your local community colleges first, then branch out from there (four year colleges). Also, many community colleges now offer online classes. I'm just not sure whether or not they offer online classes for certificate programs.

This is all I have for you for now. But if you are pressed for time, I am off of work today and can do some research for you--per your request.

Hope this information helps you.

Peace be with you always and good luck in all of your educational pursuits.

I'm sorry, I should have explained more.

I am just finishing up a Bachelors in Science with a major in Sociology from Excelsior. I should be finished in October. I am happy with my major as I wanted the liberal arts foundation, however I would also like a quick certificate in a business related subject. My plan is to go on the get a masters degree in International Relations (APU) and then several years down the road complete an MBA. But for now, the jobs I have an eye are requesting more of a business backround. I thought if I could add a quick business related certificate (5-6 courses) to my Sociology degree it would be helpful. I do have several cleps and dantes in business related subjects in my degree, but I thought with an actual certificate it would look better.

Thanks for any help you can give.

With your plans being what they are, you might look for an MBA program first, and then narrow it down to those that offer "mini MBA" certificates. That way, when the time comes, you will have classes that transfer in. This might not be the cheapest outright, but it might save you in the long run - both time and money.

I was kind of in the same boat a few months ago, I had a bachelors and a masters but was looking for a undergrad certificate in management.

I then decided to go for broke and just go after the associates in management - with EC of course. Took me 6-exams to get it done and not a lot of $$$ either, way less than a certificate too.

The PHR certificate is the standard for human resource professionals and is what employers look for. Check out HRCI - PHR-SPHR-GPHR Certification for more information, but I'll warn you ahead of time that you cannot get the designation until after you have 2 years of exempt experience in an hr role.

Like Shoto said, an Associates in Management doesn't sound too bad. Have you given that any thought?

I have several certificates, OSHA,Emergency Management,HAZMAT, and Administration of Justice which is one of my AS degrees, But I was looking for the Business Side also, the reason why is I have taken all the ECE exams in business, and have some traditional 100 level work done from UMUC in Business management.

Thanks for all the advice?

For those of you that went the associate degree route, did you finish your Bachelor's first then get the associate in addition to your bachelors? I am almost done with my Bachelors and I have seen several HR and Marketing associate degrees that I would be interested in, but I wasn't sure if if would look bad to finish an Associates after a Bachelors.
