Cheapest Master's Degree Credits
#1
Please list regionally accredited schools that offer the cheapest Master's degree credits and/or programs. I would greatly appreciate this information and thank you so much. The Master's degree credits and/or programs can be in any subject.

For education, I believe the American College of Education is the cheapest.

Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Road traveled: AA (2013) > BS (2014) > MS (2016) > Doctorate (2024)

Southeast Missouri State University, MS in management. 30 hrs, pay in-state tuition regardless of where you live. Cost is about $8500 not counting books. Catch, you must have completed the two pre-req courses they require and you must take the LSAT, GRE, GMAT or MCAT and have a 2.75 GPA calculated using the last 60 graded credits. They didn't give a required score for any of these graduate admission exams, I wonder if the threshold is just taking the exam or if they have admission requirements detailing the minimum acceptable score on any of those exams.
B.S. - Charter Oak State College - May 2014

Paramedic Medicine - Austin Community College

Law Enforcement Technology - Rio Salado College

Here is a nice list, I found it originally shared on the degreeinfo forum: College list with Online Credit Cost (2014 update).

There is one inaccurate thing I found on that list; although, it doesn't affect its overall value. Oregon State University is on the quarter hour system making it a lot more expensive in comparison to the semester hour schools listed.

This is what I'm working towards now.

There is another important catch. You have to already have three years of experience in the field. Requirements for admission to the Master of Science in Management include: at least 3 years of appropriate full-time work experience, current resume/vita including names and contact information of 3 professional/business references, 1-2 page purpose statement, bachelors degree, undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (overall or in last 60 hours), and submission of a GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or MCAT score.

It may be a catch to have:
Prerequisite Courses
MG301 Principles of Management (3 hrs)
PY271 Research Design and Analysis I (3 hrs)* OR PY571 Introductory Behavioral Statistics* (3 hrs) QM257 Business Statistics is available to fulfill this requirement for online students.

However, since there is a course: BA620 Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods (3 hrs), I can certainly understand why they are requiring it. They do let you test out of the requirement via DSST but they said no to Straighterline and ALEKS.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Western Governor's University should also get a mention, but only if you can finish quickly. If you search the forum you will find some threads here where members have detailed the experience: Affordable Accredited Online University | WGU Tuition and Fees | Western Governors University

The self-paced program makes it potentially quite cheap, but only if you work through it quickly. I hear finishing in one term is rare, but possible!

The VESI Courses are still astoundingly cheap, but you have to develop a plan to use them, Online Continuing Education Courses for Teachers : CEUs, PLUs, Undergraduate, Graduate, Distance Learning for Educators : VESi St Catharines was the price leader with these last time I checked. StCatherine - Continuing Education Courses for Teachers Online or via CD-Rom.

If you just need credits, or even if you want a full part time program Western New Mexico University and Eastern New Mexico University offer in state tuition to part time students, so its around $275/credit which equates to a sub $10K ish MA or even MBA degree. WNMU has added a new certificate program this year, with just 6 courses you can earn a grad cert, this can be expanded to a full MA degree with a second 18 credits....its a pretty cool deal designed with the Community College instructor in mind. MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Though not the cheapest, Western New Mexico University is still a good deal coming in under $10,000 with their Interdisciplinary option. You can earn 18 + 18 or 18 + 9 + 9 (though the first option does allow you to teach in 2 disciplines while the second wouldn't).

This site is wrong about Sam Houston State University. SHSU lists 3 hours of undergraduate at $1218.00 and 3 hours of graduate credit at 1368.00 -- Estimated Cost Per Semester at Sam Houston State University

I didn't check any of the other schools. GetEducated also lists SHSU as the cheapest for a free in-state program. I think that is pretty lame. What's up with that? Am I reading something wrong?
