Changing my major..
#11
rlw74 Wrote:This might be kind of a rabbit trail, but with the new course concentrations at TESU does anyone know how the actual diploma looks?
For example, is it a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in (Humanities, Social Sciences, etc) or does it actually say Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences etc? Because then it might not be a matter of changing your major to business. If you know you want to teach in a specific field maybe you could major in one of the concentrations and pursue a teaching licensure in your state with that? For example, Social Sciences might let you get teacher licensure in History? Just a thought, but I don't know if that is how it works. The difference between me getting a degree as a BA.LS or BA.SS is literally only taking one extra class but I thought it would only come in under the Liberal Studies degree anyway and not show up on the diploma. If anyone knows differently I would be curious to see.

I think the diploma is supposed to be pretty generic, but it should show your degree name with proof of concentration on the official transcript from what I've been told.

Amen to that!

dfrecore looked at everything I had - plugged it into an excel spreadsheet - and gave me two options.

While I waited (what felt like forever) for TESU to do my initial evaluation I was able to knock out 21 credits in a month. When the evaluation came through it was almost exactly what was in the spreadsheet!

I live in CA and would love more information on that online program. The concern I have is most alternative routes in CA require any degree but general education. I thought that's what liberal studies is? That's why I'm considering a changing majors. I have a degree plan made for TESU and Excelsior that a few members made me for both degrees but my university took my Ace credits so I'm thinking of taking the business courses to fulfill their degree requirements.

+1 to dfrecore!!

The TESU diploma only lists BA / BS. No concentration - that was an issue for me, this is current as of this posting date.

OP

have you considered teaching in another state? Some places are *hurting* for good teachers and offer quite a few incentives for teaching there. I think Tennessee is one. If you really want to teach, that's the route I'd go.

I'm not sure this is true. At my local state college (CSUSM), you can get a BALS plus the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. So I can't imagine a popular state college offering a degree program that wouldn't work for multiple options.

But, hey, I'm not a teacher, so I am not exactly an expert on this subject.

I also don't know what grade(s) you want to teach, or subjects, or whatever. So I really don't have enough info to be able to help you navigate this.

I would advise that you do a lot of research on this prior to changing your major, just so you know exactly what your options are.

Also, I already created a degree plan for you, so I'm not going to do any additional work on it. But it included both the BALS, and the BSBA in GM. And, make sure you don't round up when doing your conversations - TESU won't. They round down. Just so you don't get in a pinch thinking you have a credit or two more than you do.

Yes CA just decided to do this too but the new multiple subject credential program with a bachelors degree won't be available till 2018. It's too late for me as I am almost done. My only options are taking CSET and credential program after which I'm trying to avoid taking that as the new program I'm too late for won't require CSET. The other option I actually want to do does not allow you to go into it if you have a general education degree which is becoming an intern usually they will pay for your credential and you will teach while earning it. That's the route I want.. I believe I can finish my BA in Business.. I literally just completed the Principles of Marketing course in 3 days..

If you want to do your BSBA at TESU, you might want to sign up for the TECEP Strategic Management immediately.
