Tonight was a very difficult night for my family. My 15 year old went out to go to the music store with his 16 year old friend driving.
In the meanwhile, my husband and the rest of our family went shopping.. and while we were out, I got a phone call telling me that my "son is stuck in the car, but don't worry, they're getting the jaws of life and he's not going to die," and asked us to meet them in the ER.
We rushed to the emergency room and saw him and his friend both covered in blood and strapped to their beds. It was terrifying awaiting the results of the cat scan and xrays, etc...
The paramedics told me about the accident and the boys were hit by a woman turning left trying to make a yellow light. When she saw that she was about to hit them, she tried to brake, but somehow missed and hit the accelerator instead. They literally flew through the air and crashed into the side of a fast food restaurant.
Anyway, after a long evening in the ER, my son ended up walking out with no head injury or broken bones. His friend did get a concussion and some glass had to be pulled out of his face, but will also be fine.
Driving home, we stopped to see the site of the accident. It was so scary. There's a huge hole in the side of the cement wall of the restaurant that they hit. You can also see where they were in the air because there are no tracks in the snow. We talked to a couple of the employees who were absolutely amazed that anyone survived the crash. What's even more amazing is that a few days ago, in a conversation about cars, my son's friend had told my husband that his airbags didn't work, but they somehow managed to go off tonight thank God.
My son will be sore for a while but I am so thankful that he is ok.

OMG!!!! I am so glad your son is OK. That must have been horrible for him. Just let him talk about it as much as he needs to. I know it is hard for you try to just calm yourself knowing that he is OK. I was hit by a car when I was almost 15 years old. I still (MANNNYYY) years later ocasionaly have a nightmare where I see the lights coming at me. It does get better though.

Holy crap, I'm glad to hear they came out OK, maybe with a few battle scars though. I was in a terrible accident in October with my daughter and we came out fine as well, so I know how you feel and what you are going through worrying about your son. Get a lawyer ASAP, don't give the other insurance company any info or recorded statements. They will twist what you say and end up screwing you.

Thank you everyone. It's been a rough night and your kind words have helped. My son is now fast asleep and I have the alarm set to give him more pain meds at 5:00am. I hope he feels ok. He told me that he wanted to cry but couldn't, so I hope that he's ok emotionally. His friend was crying in the ER, and I really wish my son could do so too. I don't want him to hold it in.

Definitely contact a lawyer. If the driver hasn't had his license for more than 6 months he was also driving illegally with a passenger.

I'm so glad to hear everyone was ok. Thank goodness they had their seatbelts on and the airbags worked. My son is 17 and was in a very minor fender bender last year. It really scared him but he did well until he saw me then he broke down into tears and began to shake. I'm sure as soon as your son can truly process what happened the gravity of the event will hit him and the flood gates will open. Just support him and reassure him so he won't be afraid to drive or be in a car with friends driving. I'm sending positive thoughts your way for both of you!
