Capstone requirement change at TESU

I hope, hope hope hope they reply and say it won't be a problem. It will already be a hardship to pay tuition for the Capstone at the original time I planned on it. I cannot afford to take another expensive class at TESU just to get a letter grade to meet a new requirement to even REGISTER for the Capstone...

You don't have to take a course at TESU to get a letter grade - it can be from any RA school.  So, you could take something at your local CC and get credit.  Or one of the NM CC's which are cheap.

But, I don't think anyone here has been turned down from TESU because they don't have any graded credits before, so it may be a non-issue.  If you have 117cr (ungraded), and took the cornerstone there, I'm guessing they will let you register for the capstone.  By virtue of passing all of the courses you take, you should have a 2.0 (passing is 70% for most ACE courses).  No official GPA, but I still think they will let you take it.

So far the implication has been that non-graded credits were virtually equivalent to a 2.0 GPA, so I'm hoping they will accept that for the capstone as well.

But yeah, if it were me, I'd get the credits from a local CC or something rather than from TESU.

My local community college won't allow me to take any classes unless I go through the entire enrollment process which includes the Accuplacer test. I consistently bomb that test (esp. the math) which is why I started doing alternative credits in the first place. I could never get past them telling me I need tons of remedials (which don't have letter grades themselves... and no credit for them either). So if I did end up needing letter grades I would have to do something like CSU global I guess

Out of curiosity, what about teceps, do those give actual grades? or only pass/fails?

I think TECEPs are pass/fail, but I think UExcels are graded? Could be mistaken

TECEP's are P/F, CSU-Global CBE's are P/F.

You can bypass your local CC and take an online course elsewhere. My local CC didn't have any sort of requirement that I take tests to take the one and only course I took there, I'm sure there are plenty of others that won't either.

As far as I know, if you register with the CC as a non-degree seeking student, most schools will usually let you take any courses you want. Assuming the courses you're trying to take don't require prerequisites.

Boy are people REALLY going off on this. There is nothing here that says you have to take a graded course, just unfounded speculation. Having to have 100 credits is new, but most people would anyway. I expect this to turn out to be a non-issue. If someone wants to register for their capstone now in order to avoid this policy, and they're ready, then that might be prudent, but all this angst just isn't warranted.

It says you have to have a 2.0 GPA.  I know this was already there, but for a newer person who hasn't thought ahead to the capstone and doesn't know this, it may seem daunting if they haven't taken any graded courses.

I don't think people are REALLY going off on this, just some are a bit worried about what changes may mean for them.  I agree that it's nothing to panic over.

For some us us who are already barely able to pay for study.com each month, the prospect of possibly having to budget for an unexpected expense such as a regular graded class is a big deal.
