Astonishing record number - 100,000 applications for first year admissions to New York University!
That's the most I've seen ever at any school I think... 22% spike for NYU international applications.
The articles mentions the Biden administration and their new laws, I agree, I think it played a role in this...

Good for everyone- institutions will make money and offer diversity . International students will have chance to look forward to pursue legalization in future and build life there.

The definite advantage to having lots of int'l students is that they pay full freight - no government subsidies here. I also don't think it's a "Biden bump" as these aren't the students who aren't welcomed into the US with open arms. They're generally rich, and their parents are footing a very expensive bill to get them a top-notch education and rub elbows with other up-and-comers. If they want to become citizens, most can easily do so. Or they can go back to their home countries and be part of the upper-class there.
Also, doubling applications from last year should be easy, since they plunged due to Covid. Trying to give Biden credit for that is just silly.

I should have said "staying in the US" will be easy enough, many of these people will be getting high-paying jobs.
But you're right, it's not "easy" to legally become a US citizen. As it should be. Lots in my family waited a long time - even ones who married US citizens who were in the military (5 years I think it was).

Yup. Even celebrities have a hard time. When Craig Ferguson had the Late Late Show, he said it took him 7 years to become a US citizen.

International application numbers really kicked up here in the EA/RD rounds. I read through something like 1500+ student application essays in the past few months, but things are dying down finally.
If anyone's interested in a bit of trivia, UCLA is the most applied-to uni still, receiving around 140K applications this year. The UC schools as a whole pulled in a quarter of a million apps. It's just crazy growth.
