Canadian, where to start ?

The plan would be to go to Austrailia for the degree but i would like to come back to Canada to practice.

That could be horribly expensive! If your law degree is British, Australian (or anything else other than Canadian) then I know Ontario's Law Society (LSUC) will make you take half a dozen VERY expensive courses before you can practice here. I think you'd be looking at a year and a half of full-time school and maybe $15,000 or up. Other provincial Law Societies have their own rules. Good luck!

Interesting note - they say quite a few American lawyers have expressed interest in qualifying to work in Canada, since the U.S. Election in 2016.

I kind of wondered about that myself. Why would you get your law degree in another country, rather than the one you want to practice in? Seems like it would just be a lot of extra work to do.

I mentioned to the OP that a California Juris Doctor maybe a better option than the Australian one...
It all depends on what the OP wants, the Bond University program is a very competitive program...
But I would still recommend trying to get into a Law school in Canada or US vs going to Australia...

Why would getting a JD from California when the OP wants to live and practice in Canada be a good option?  I know there's a "cheap" option, but it also requires that you live here and study under a judge or lawyer for 4 years while doing it.  That seems like a very high bar for anyone, let alone a non-citizen who doesn't want to live in this country.  I think it would be difficult to get a green card for this, so you would be hard-pressed to stay here legally for that time frame.

So what's your rationale for proposing this?  It seems crazy to me.

It's actually so far down the road, that im more concerned with the first step of getting a degree. I'm just weighing my options. There is a JD program here as well. however, getting in will probably be harder than Bond.

Yup, I got your PM. Basically, just continue doing the ALEKS until you've got as many credits out of it...
Since you're starting from scratch, I'll recommend doing the list of FREE courses for elective credits.
If you're fast and not employed, you can finish this in 4 months (120 credits). If you go slower, it can take 6 months.

Read my Beginners Guide and download the BSBA Template my Dropbox, I think it would be better degree than "any" other degree.
If you do decide to transfer your D grade or higher credits over, get it evaluated first - course by course - roughly $200USD.
I think you can get up to 30 credits in just one month of ALEKS/Free Credits. Spend the next months on Straighterline.

Follow the template I have, just don't do the courses you are "transferring" over. Finish Straighterline and your final courses would be from Study.com - it's $200/month for 2 courses, I'd cram 4 in that month ($70/exam) so it'll be $340 for 4 courses vs $400 for 2 months.
You should work on the final Study.com courses along with the Capstone, you have 3 months of work for the capstone.

i emailed aleks but haven't heard back from them, are the ace credits expiring by the end of this month or are they extending it ?

Yep...You betcha, they've been doing monthly extension renewals for like 8-9 months now.
Until they get a full 3-5 year renewal from ACE, it'll keep happening. Just continue working on it...

Send your courses to ACE one at a time when you complete them. Once you're at say 90 credits or so,
OR if there some changes coming up at TESU, apply and transfer them all in.

All you need is to follow this thread and the spreadsheet - post 5.
