Cambridge is transitioning to online-only instruction for the upcoming academic year: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/19/world...world.html
Doubt it would cause even a ripple in the USA, but wonder if it would cause a mini cascade effect abroad.

Just remember that it's not officially a digital classroom if there's no 480p nostrilcam and tiny dogs barking at each other over open mics.

I'm talking to some other UK schools for Ph.D. programs and from what the advisors are saying, they are planning for online students next year as well. I imagine there will be a similar plan for US schools coming soon, even if they don't end up needing it.
Working on: Debating whether I want to pursue a doctoral program or maybe another master's degree in 2022-23

For some reason, this thread makes me remember reading about the closing down of the first webcam. It was set up in Cambridge University to watch the coffee post so that techies would know, if they went to the pot, there would be coffee there. Ah, caffeine. The mother of invention.

Edit: Reply to Merlin's post above "I'm talking to some other UK schools for Ph.D. programs and from what the advisors are saying, they are planning for online students next year as well. I imagine there will be a similar plan for US schools coming soon, even if they don't end up needing it."
There's another thread with a little map tracker that monitors U.S. school plans on an on-going basis, and maybe they'll keep that updated.
I'm monitoring the UK response since I have students enrolling in Oxbridge, UCL, and Imperial next term, so on top of their final high school semester already being spent at home, I'm really curious if they'll all end up with 1.5 years of online learning. One kid wants to study archaeology, but since archaeologists are always digging up ancient curses and unleashing them from their backyards anyway, I'm not sure if keeping her away from the general population will do anyone much good. What a unique welcome to adulthood for them, though.
