What's your average TECEP score?
#11
SweetSecret Wrote:I'm curious what the average TECEP score is. With ProctorU they give a number at the end, but don't specify if its the number answered correctly or the percent answered correctly. For this reason, I'm only interested in the results of people who have taken TECEPs requiring 60 of 100 questions to be answered correctly.

I'm asking this because the questions often seem odd & many aren't specifically covered by the texts. Twice I've taken TECEPs & while I passed, I was disappointed with my score since I study for months. I'm just wondering if maybe my scores are average though, & the questions are just abnormally difficult for the majority of test takers.

The poll will not disclose your username, just the number that was voted.

I didn't click in the poll because I don't remember my score, but it wasn't very high, certainly not in the A range. I had some bizarre questions too. One question on the nutrition exam when I took it (2006ish?) was something like what was the most popular kind of sandwich. banghead It's possible it was in the book, but who cares? LOL

I don't know about the rest of you, but this poll is helping me. It makes me feel more normal versus feeling like I am a total study failure! LOL Although, I may not pressure myself so much on the advertising TECEP that I plan to take next. I also think this information is good because I'm sure that there will be other people like me who will feel like they just "barely passed" and may not want to chance it with another exam. I'm glad that I did, but hopefully having this information out there will show others what the normal pass range is too, and encourage people to take more TECEPS.

Are you sure the TECEP is a straight number right from 100? I thought this was also a test with some kind of formula. The second TECEP I took was very out of date (but I am old) and I felt like I knew the subject both old and new. I only got a 75, I thought this was one of the easiest test I ever took. They did remove the test shortly after that, this was Way Back in '07. The only other TECEP I took was Psychology of women, this was my first credit by exam, I got the book and studied it and I also relied on about 35 years of seeing councilors and 50 years of being a women I got a 74. I was pretty happy with that score and I remember being told, I don't remember by who but someone at TESC, that 74 was equivalent to an A if letter grades were used.

I went on to take many CLEP, DSST, and other exams and always passed and usually in the range considered at least a B.

So go easy on yourself you are doing fine

I asked the testing department how the exams were scored. I was told they run the MC exams (both partial & complete) through an inhouse grading device that counts the correct answers. This, btw, is when I was taking the paper tests. Further example, I was also told the exact number of correct answers on my business policy exam so I had an idea of the score needed from the essays. It was close because I didn't do well on the MC section, I got lost in the marketing old school jargon which made up many of the questions. The terminology on the test was outdated and just not used anymore. I did not think to study marketing subject before the exam. The marketing clep was actually one of the easiest exams I'd taken at the time so it was in the rearview.

So far as the letter to numerical score equivalent, I never asked about it...didn't think there would be a scale since it's CR/NC so thatnks for sharing theat info. It's online with the way prometric scored their exams in the past. You didn't need a 70-80 score for an A. Tech Writing 53+, Human Res Mgmt 54+, Org Beh 56+ were all considered A's; quite low in my opinion but they also published the average scoring range ©.

This is a really interesting piece of information, and something TESC really should address. I recall a somewhat recent conversation here on Degree Forum where a there was discussion that scoring 60 would basically be a "D", and if a person scored that in a traditional class it wouldn't count towards the area of study because of the low grade, yet if a person passes a TECEP it still counts in the area of study. So in some ways it brings into question whether this is sort of a double standard.

Here's the thread:
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...ssing.html

I did find another thread which talks about the CLEP scoring, and someone mentioned that a 58-80 was an "A".
http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...sst-2.html

Just another thought though, TESC has this posted on their website:
"The minimum score required to earn credit on a TECEPÂ exam is equivalent to a letter grade of C."
Source: http://www.tesc.edu/degree-completion/Ea...credit.cfm

I think that means on these exams of 60 of 100 to pass:

60 to 64 = C
65 to 69 = C+
70 to 74 = B-
75 to 79 = B
80 to 84 = B+
85 to 89 = A-
90 to 94 = A
95 to 100 = A+
