COSC and my existential crisis....
#11
I'm going to agree with bluebooger, the reasons you have for not wanting the degree from COSC are not the best. I can't imagine choosing anything for those reasons. Especially the football game thing. I went to a "real" 4-year college for a couple of years, and can safely say that not only did I never go to a football game, but I have absolutely no interest in going to one ever. Even if I had graduated from there. AND, if you don't live in WV, then really, how many football games are you going to go to anyway? I'm going to guess ZERO.

The only reason that might be plausible is the Capstone - but then again, you're going to pay an extra $5,000 to not have to write a capstone? Seems a little extreme to me.

AND, there is no guarantee that when you get to the other school, and have to take 7 courses, that NONE of them is going to require a paper of any kind? What happens if ALL of them require a paper (or two or three)? Then, you will have just jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Trying to avoid the capstone is kind of silly in my opinion, when you get on here and read everyone's capstone experiences, almost all of them say it wasn't as bad as they thought it was going to be. I mean like 90% of people say this.

My opinion is to just finish the degree at COSC and move on with your life. You will probably never spend another minute thinking about it anyway, wherever you get your degree from.

Your real choice is between a couple of relatively easy papers (one in corner one in cap) or ALL the work for 7 courses. Yes the Capstone paper requires you to think, and write....bit 20-30 pages essentially about how to apply knowledge you have already demonstrated shouldn't be that tough for you.

I live in Florida....never heard of West Virginia University (though , of course, it stands to reason they have a University).

The cost would be a factor for me as well. Plus while you might not care how long it takes you never know when life will throw you a curve ball and cause you to put those plans on hold (as you have been doing since 1991).

COSC is cheaper by far, and you put this degree thing to rest. There is nothing to think through here, choice is clear. Smile (hahaha...as if right?).

Either choice is fine.....at some point you just have to go with it.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Anyone heard of UC Merced? Do any of you even know where Merced is? It is right smack in the middle of CA, halfway between Sacramento and Bakersfield on Hwy-99. You wouldn't want to go there (Merced), it's horrible. I'm sure the school is fine. But, if you apply to the UC system (you apply to all 8 schools at once), if you don't get into your first or second choice, you are automatically accepted at UC Merced, which has a 74% acceptance rate. Yep, the loser school.

So, even though it has a "UC" name, one of the most prestigious in the country (in my opinion), there are still not great, not well known schools within that system as well.

And no, I can't name a single SUNY school, because I'm from CA and have never lived anywhere else, certainly not in NY. I agree with Synicaal most people know schools near where they live, and a few schools because they're just well-known schools. Or they can figure it out because the State/City is in the name (Sacramento State University is obviously in Sacramento, for instance).

You're right - although UCSF doesn't offer Bachelor's degrees.

While the UC system does have a unified application system, you do not automatically apply to all of them. You choose which schools you want to apply to, and pay a separate application fee for each school. The CSU system works in a similar manner.

Eh I just looked through your link to see how many I did actually know of and its a good amount probably about 80% they break down a few into separate that I never would have said if you actually quizzed me and I didn't know FIT was a SUNY school and a couple more in there I never heard of. But the High School I graduated from was huge and that's where I learned a lot of school from people I know saying where they were going for school.

So I guess you are right in a way I didn't know them All lol.
