COSC Concentration Questions
#1
Hi all,

I am a brand new COSC student with 24 credits from previous coursework and just took the Spanish CLEP today and scored 80!!

I was planning on the Business Administration concentration, but have had second thoughts. I just got the COSC catalogue and noticed that there is a foreign language concentration option. I think that a Spanish concentration may be an easy option for me, but I don't know if it's possible to do that all (minus capstone) via CLEP or other tests. Does anyone know about this?

One other question - in the catalogue, I also saw a Healthcare Administration concentration - this would prove useful for my current career, but again, I am wondering how CLEP/DSST testing would work on this.

Either Spanish or Healthcare Administration is more interesting to me than business admin, but I need to get my BS quickly due to severe pressure at work, so anything requiring additional classwork isn't an option. Are all concentrations possible with only CLEP/DSST + capstone or is it just a select few?

Thanks!

I can't comment on the others, but the Health Care Admin isn't possible w/o around 30 hrs of course work.

I don't think World Languages can be entirely tested out, you'll probably need some coursework to complete the concentration. However, before choosing it I'd ask your COSC advisor if they have plans to keep it around. Last week I found out that after July EC is eliminating World Languages. This, of course, has nothing to do with COSC but I believe they also have some policy changes coming up.

Thank you for the responses. I will probably not go for the healthcare admin concentration if it means more class time.

I'll check with my advisor on the Spanish question. I really love Spanish, but I'm not entirely sure what I would do with the degree. I'm currently in healthcare IT sales. Either business or healthcare courses make the most sense, even if my current employer just wants me to get my degree.
