COSC Business Degree planning - Step 1

Out of frustration with TESU- I've decided to apply to the other 2. I'm curious to know if I am anywhere near completion, knowing COSC and EC require 30 UL.  After researching for a good part of the day, I may be closer than anticipated at COSC. I can't seem to find anywhere on COSC website-- a breakdown of their requirements for the General Bus degree. Luckily, there are a few personalized COSC evals here on the forum-- but the format in which COSC uses is rather mind-boggling for me. LOL Or it may just be lack of sleep. Either way, I'd appreciate having some help with breaking down where my courses might go and if they'd be UL or LL at COSC.  I haven't made an official degree plan YET- so I modified my ACE transcript. Also-- did I read somewhere on the forum that there is a BS or BA without a Capstone??? I could swear I read that somewhere but now can't find the thread.

There are no BS or BA degrees at any of the Big 3 that don’t require a Capstone. At COSC, you’ll need both the cornerstone and capstone courses.

The 30 UL are a mix of 18 in your AOS, and remember your capstone counts as 3, and the other credits can come from elsewhere in your Liberal Arts. I don’t have any idea what COSC Shmoop equivalencies are, so I can’t comment on whether you Shakespeare course transfers as Eng. 320 for example. Actually, if it does I might do that and the Capstone to finish my English concentration.

Oh wow, Shmoop Shakespeare’s Plays did come in as Eng. 320 in that last thread. I think I might have saved myself $100 and a lot of headache on the Capstone if they will do that on mine as well.

I am the one who posted the degree plan you are referencing. That posting was a little old. I have my upper-level classes mainly done now. Here is the breakdown of what worked for me for my major:
Institutes - Insurance Ethics: 2 Credits
Shmoop - Shakespeare's Plays: 3 Credit
Shmoop - Victorian Literature: 3 Credits
Shmoop - The Bible as Literature: 3 Credits
Shmoop - Geometry: 2 Credits
Straighterline - Organizational Behavior: 3 Credits
Straighterline - Business Ethics: 3 Credits
COSC - Industrial/Organizational Psychol: 3 Credits
COSC - Social Psychology: 3 Credits
COSC - Psychology of Personality: 3 Credits

So basically the only truly upper-level classes I had to take was the 3 Pyschs at COSC and the Capstone. I only took the psychology classes at COSC because grants and scholarships made it free if I was full-time. Those classes could be taken anywhere.

I think I understand their system right now. If a class comes in for evaluation, they first check to see if there is a similar class taught at COSC. If there is then they apply whatever level they have for that class to the transfer class. That is why all the lower level classes above came in as upper-level. COSC teaches a "The Bible as Literature" class so I took the shmoop version hoping for upper-level and got it. If COSC does not have a corresponding class then they go by the ACE recommendation for the level as an elective. Lastly, COSC has a corresponding class that is lower-level and the ACE recommendation is upper-level, they will give you upper-level credit.

Looking at the classes you have completed I would expect upper-level credit for:
2 Credits: Institutes Insurance Ethics
3 Credits: Shmoops The Bible as Literature
3 Credits: Shmoops Shakespeare's Plays
3 Credits: Straighterlines Organizational Behavior (AOS)
3 Credits: Study.com Advanced Operations Management (AOS)
3 Credits: Study.com Logistics and Supply Chain Management (AOS)
3 Credits: Study.com Managerial Communication (AOS)
3 Credits: Study.com Global Marketing (AOS)

I do not know Study.com that well but I think I got them all. History of Technology, Media Literacy and Cyber Security for Everyone all come in as lower level electives. This gives you 23 upper-level credits. The Institutes ethics does not work for the ethics requirements at COSC. I recommend Straighterline's Business Ethics. It will come in as upper-level 3 credits and fulfill the ethics requirement. That would put you at 26 Credits. You need 15 upper-level class in your AOS excluding the capstone. You have that already! Once you have the capstone, you will have 29 upper-level credits. So you will need to take 1 more upper-level class in any subject. Any of the Shmoop classes that I got upper-level for that you didn't may be able to get you over 30. Also, your Vietnam War class may come in as upper-level since I do believe they have an upper-level class for it.

Regardless, I think you should apply asap. I did not look too hard, but I feel like you are very close to only having to take the Cornerstone and the Capstone. Take note that you can not start your capstone until the semester after your cornerstone. If you apply now, you might be able to get into next months Cornerstone session and graduate in the summer. I don't know what it is about COSC, but their requirements confuse me too. I think it's because you can use 1 class for more than 1 thing (300 level Psychology would count as a psychology course, a liberal arts, and an upper level). The gen eds + your business classes = requirements. Any deficiency is filled with whatever you want (ex, you'll probably need more UL or liberal arts)

I applied yesterday, so I'm anxious to see. From the sounds of it, I'm close! I am going to knock out SL Bus. Ethics and hopefully finish up with my Chem Lab by the time I get a response from COSC. 

I wonder about the other Shmoop courses-- haven't seen anyone else posting about where/how they slot. AND I can't find equivalencies for some of the SL courses- for COSC. Oh well, we will soon find out. 

And as far as 1 UL course-- I'm not sure that exists! Although I say that and I remember TEEX recently had one of their courses listed on ACE that comes in at 1 UL for business or information risk mgmt or intro to info security. Maybe that'll work?

I have some of those links saved and been trying to make sense of them.  Sleep seemed to help. And this thread of course! 

I hope Shmoop Shakespeare's Plays work out for you! I enjoyed that course.

Hehe-- glad to know that I am not alone! I still don't understand how they use 1 course in 2 different places. LOL Oh well. I started the TEEX AWR177 course (comes in on ACE at 1 UL). I might as well test it out and see how it'll come in. Guess I'll be the guinea pig for dfrecore! 

And I think I'm going to be one of those forever learners. I've still been eyeballing a few SDC courses, because I love their structure and how content is taught. If anything, I may use this motivation to work towards a Masters in something?! If I can get into a program somewhere! I haven't given that much thought, as you can tell. But for my love of learning, why not apply it to another degree? 

I just had a thought, I was looking into adding the ASNSM to my BSBA at TESU-- before I got super irritated with them. Is that same path available with COSC? I wonder!? Guess I will be researching all this weekend.   I DO know I don't want to have 2 capstones, if I can help it.

Yeah, I am not sure of any 1 credit UL classes, but any 2 or 3 credit one will work. I do not think there are any more Straighterline classes that can get it, but there are a couple Shmoop classes that should work if your evaluation comes back like mine. As I said, it wouldn't surprise me to see you get UL for that Vietnam War class so you might not even need one. I did read about the TEEX one with the reevaluation. Might be something to look it to if you need one. If you don't mind, please post your evaluation when you get it. There is a lack of recent COSC examples and any example might shed some more light on to them. Been seeing more people choose COSC lately so it might help someone else.

The reason I said that is because my son started with that degree (we did switch which had nothing to do with it) but his business credits didn't fill a lot of upper level requirements, and he had a lot of gen eds from high school Straighterline- so while I wasn't really degree planning for him, I was trying to make sure he had a nice distribution of LL gen eds and the basic business core. After his eval, he wasn't even close to enough liberal arts or upper level - BUT- I will say that there are some studycom courses that are business but come in as upper level liberal arts- I found a handful in their guide but don't have my notes handy. It's worth looking at.

Hey lady! Thank you! This plan is a huge help. I should show you the one I started to put together by using my TESU plan. Second thought, probably shouldn't. It looks terrible and color coded galore! LOL Yours is sooo much nicer-- and simpler. I was overcomplicating mine. I guess partly because I didn't know what will go where-- and how Jen was saying one course can count in two places. Ah, my brain is hurting.

I applied yesterday with my 129 credits. Stay tuned- I will update as soon as I hear back. In the meantime, I'll try to make sense of which courses are classified as 'what'. 

I think I'm still going to continue you with TEEX courses tho-- to see where they will slot. And I'm still curious about an ASNSM, and if its still easy to acquire, now that I may go thru COSC.
