CLEP Score Confusion. New to this.
#1
Do you "Fail" a CLEP if the college of your choice doesn't accept the score that you got? Or does the college board set the requirements for passing or failing?

If I fail a CLEP and retake the test in six months, does the new score cancel out the other score?

For example, TESC requires a score of 50 for credit. Let's say I cold test and only get 40. If I retake the test in six months and get a score of 50, will the 40 be removed from the transcripts that I will send to TESC?

Thank you.

Each school sets their own requirements but most use the ACE (American Council on Education) recommended score of 50 to pass (note that DSST have different scores if you go that route at all). If you fail and retake it then the new score would get sent and accepted. If you are enrolled then they send the score report when you test and when the new one is sent it cancels out the old one, if you are a future student then you send in a form to request scores are sent and it will all work out. The "40" will never hit the transcript. They will note on the eval that it was not accepted but failing scores do not show up as an "F" or a "NC" so they will know you took it again but that is in compliance with ACE recommendations so they will go along with it. Most schools also give a PASS "P" or CREDIT "CR" for the exams and not a letter grade so a pass is a pass. Study up and you'll soon see the joy of CLEP & DSST exams!
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

CooperAlex is correct in regards to the new score of your second attempt being sent on its own -- each score report contains just the one score. The only time a school would see both test scores would be if you ordered a transcript from CLEP after the fact (so not the score report that is sent to your school immediately after testing and included in the test fee) without any specific instructions. If you use the CLEP Transcript Request Form to order a transcript, you will want to make sure to check the box that says "send only exam scores of 50 or above" and then the lower scores would not show. If nothing is checked, they will send a transcript of ALL your scores -- pass and fail.
