CLEP Natural Sciences
#1
So I got a 51 on the first Pertersons practice test. How does that compare to the real CLEP test?

I guess I am just nervous. Any tips?

The Peterson's Natural Science tests are considerably more difficult than the actual tests, in my opinion. However, the material is similar, just considerably more in depth. They are good practice, along with the biology flashcards. Some say that the REA Natural Science text is quite good also. I didn't personally use it, but I found their Biology text to be a fairly good review of many core concepts.

I've heard that a score of around 70% on a Peterson's test is a good indicator that you will easily pass, BUT it is different on some tests. I've never taken CLEP NS, so I can't talk with experience for this test.

I found a lot of the Natural Science to be very basic. Do the official practice questions and if you score at 50% then you are on the bubble. At 60% you're in line to pass based on my experience.

The Natural Sciences CLEP was a no-go for me - I got a 49 - but then again, I've never been very scientific-minded. I found that test to be quite difficult, perhaps it's because I didn't study long enough, I'm not exactly sure why. One of the topics on the test that was particulary hard for me was the Physics section that included physics and chemistry notation that I found incomprehensible. I obviously breezed through the physics and chemistry portions of my book without really taking the time to learn those formulas, notation, and types of equations.
So while most of the test was just me not understanding, I would highly recommend that you study up on areas you don't understand well (or at all). Get someone who knows what they're doing to help you out. Score at least a 65% on the Peterson's test if you want to pass the real thing. I found the actual CLEP to be much more difficult that the Peterson's exam.
