I was wondering if TESC would allow you to take the College Algebra CLEP and the Fundamentals of College Algebra DSST and still give you credit for both? I kind of doubt it, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone knew for sure.
If not allowed, does anyone know which one is easier?
Thanks!

Well it seems they are actually different. The dantes is coded as intermediate algebra and the clep as college algebra. If you want to be sure call advising and have both added to your degree audit. Also since the dantes is a substitute for an intermediate course I would assume it to be easier.
MAT-121-CE College Algebra (3)
MAT-115-DE Fundamentals of College Algebra (3)

A second option would be ALEKS ( ALEKS -- Assessment and Learning, K-12, Higher Education, Automated Tutor, Math) at $20/month + $40 ace transcript service fee ( www.acenet.edu/transcripts/index.cfm)
MAT 115 - Intermediate Algebra (002)
MAT 121 - Choice of College Algebra (003) or College Algebra with Trig (004)
TESC accepts both and you will earn 6 credits for $60 assuming you complete all courses in one month. The courses are online so you have access to online tools (i.e., mathway.com), software such as algebrator, and textbooks from local library to help.
Aleks information is bulging at the seams on this site. If you want additional info just do a quick search.
Good luck in whatever method you choose!

Just thought I'd update. I did that free information session webinar thing that TESC sent the email about, and I was able to ask someone there about the CLEP algebra and DSST algebra. They said that you would only be given credit for one, even if you passed both.
I don't know how much that means, given that the thing was free, and they were answering a lot of questions in a short amount of time. Still, that was the info I got, and the info I'll probably go with for now.

for some reason I dont find that correct info - why would they give it different course numbers? May be who ever that was (webinar) is confused by the titles...was it an advisor? When courses duplicate they use the same course number -- example COS-101 used for both the dantes intro to computing and clep info systems.
Again, if you are an enrolled student, I would speak with an advisor, the expressline even. If allowed they can add both to your evaluation which is an approval.
I am not a tesc specialist, I'm just a graduate. I do know I received credit for both MAT 115 & MAT 121 through aleks; and I have been audited twice now for two degrees and those very same courses are again sitting on my current academic eval for the third degree...so I take that persons comment with a grain of salt. Of course YMMV.

I would agree with you; because of the course #'s, they should be different and one could go towards free electives. With TESC - the answers depend on who you talk to. I went and took MIS DSST, a 300 level course because someone told me i needed it. Then I see on my evaluation that the COS Computer information systems CLEP which I had taken fit in there, and the MIS was slipped to Free electives.
Depends who you talk to. If you get a positive affirmation, ask for them to send you an email stating it. That keeps you safe
