How dare rich people be forced to pay more than the dirty, rotten poors! The country exists to support and protect the darling snowflake riches. Without them, there would be no jobs. There would be no crumbs for us peons to nibble in our hovels. We should happily pay far more so that the riches—the best, most wonderful, most enlightened, most beautiful, and most deserving can have everything. We poors don’t even deserve to live! Death to the poors! More for the rich!

Yeah, if you're really poor, a $50 fine is as heavy as a $500 fine. I'd rather see a smaller fine that can actually be payed, than something so huge that it just gets ignored until it snowballs into license suspensions or worse.

The problem comes when you try to verify how "poor" someone is. Watch for lots of wealthy people trying to game themselves into the lower fines.

Yes, encourage people to speed by making it easier for some to get away with it. It's not as if someone breaking the law and speeding ever kills anyone by that reckless behavior..
