Wow, $221 for one book!! Maybe I should rethink the idea of taking courses at Columbia! :eek:

Ok well just don't take FINC 354 then. I bought the required text for my first class on amazon.com. After I finished the course, I sold it for a small profit. It still cost about $90, but if you sell it off when you're finished, you usually recoup most or all of the money. I heavily mark my study books because it makes it easier to review. Whenever I'm looking to buy a book, I like to make sure it has highlighting in it (makes it a whole lot easier to study). When I sell I do the same, listing the book as in good condition but with lots of highlighting. BTW I'm not making any marks in the $221 book. I just want to sell it in pristine condition =)

I recommend the REA books but for DSST exams they list multiple books so that you have a better chance of finding one cheap or at the library I think.
It doesn't mean you need all four.
I found one on the internet and was fine.

I agree with you about the books, but there was something that threw me off regarding this particular exam. First, I saw on the DSST fact sheet a practice question that started with "According to Boatwright..."

I've taken a general ethics class already, and I don't remember a mention of any Boatwright so I Googled this name and it turns out that it's the name of the author of one of those textbooks that's recommended. I couldn't believe it when I saw that but then it got even worse...

I found a thread on this site that talks about this exam and the person reported that several questions started with "According to Carroll/Buchholz.." and those two are the authors of yet another of the textbooks recommended to study.

I've been reading the Carroll/Buchholz book and so far one of the authors, Carroll, seems to have his own pet theories that you won't find mentioned elsewhere or in other texts.

That's what worried me about this particular exam, that it may contain questions about these authors' pet theories that have no general consensus among their peers in the field... so I wouldn't find mention of them anywhere but in the books that they wrote.

I find it all rather ironic given the subject matter. I mean, using college credit exams to promote your own pet theories (and sell your own books) seems like an unethical end run around procedures for peer review and consensus on said theories!

I completed this exam today and only used instacert and the 60 page study guide posted by another user and passed. Just barely but I passed. Know the concepts as they apply to different scenarios.

Old thread I know, but the info in here is pertinent so I'm bumping it. I took this exam yesterday and passed- only with 449. I had taken a practice exam and scored 89% so I thought I knew the material really well, but the actual exam had info that was not in my study material.

In particular, as stated above, there were at least 2 questions about Carroll and Buchholz, such as "according to Carroll and Buchholz, it is ethical to do what when laying off a group of people?

Also, many questions on a variety of regulations, most of which I had studied; however, there was a question on the Class Action Fairness Act regarding what damages folks are now entitled to. I hadn’t studied this one so I just guessed.

Many questions regarding "Company x does _____. Is this legal/moral/ethical/ legal but unethical, etc.

It didn't just cover definitions per se, many questions were in the form of scenarios. There was a weird one, something like, according to (I can't remember who), which of the following is covered under the anti-trust act? a: talking to teens about a product and paying with that product; b: talking teens into selling a product and paying them with that product, etc.

Oh, and lots of questions regarding global/multinational/foreign practices.
