One thing to add. Schedule your test NOW. The day that I come home from my CLEP/DSST test, I hop online to schedule the next one. At my testing center, I have to pay a non-refundable 35 bucks to schedule. This will force you to study.

Get online and schedule your tests NOW!!!!! How long do you need to study, a week? Two weeks? Schedule one for 10/9 and one for 10/23. Then you're done before Halloween.

The testing center I go to will not allow me to schedule tests any more than a week in advance. However, I "schedule" them myself, meaning, I determine when I'm going to take one and put it on my calendar.

I also make myself accountable to my boss. We have a meeting once a month to discuss various work-related issues, and I also give him a report on how I'm doing with school. I have told him that I need to take at least one test a month. More is better, but at least one is "required." For reasons I wont' go into, I had gotten behind schedule and yet since I knew that I had my meeting with him coming up, I pushed myself to prepare and take a test before I had my monthly meeting with him. That kind of pressure can be very helpful!

Pardon the Sailor in me but maybe you just need to spend an evening with the distinguished Mr. Daniels and the honorable Mr. Walker.

That should refresh.

This is a lot of money to have to pay for a testing fee. My test center charges $15 and the money rolls over to next time, if I can't make the appointment. I would guess the average on the forum is $20 for test fees.

I know that you have to balance convenience and other aspects, but you may not have to pay this much, if you don't want to.

My testing center charges $25, but it is only a half a mile from my home and so it can't be beat from a convenience factor. Well, except that they don't have the best hours -- no weekends, and only open till 6:00 p.m. M-TH and close at 3:00 on Fridays. Fortunately I have every other Friday off work and so I just go on Fridays. But for someone with less flexibility, the hours are pretty bad.

I wished they charged less because every little bit adds up, but especially in bad weather it is great to only drive a half a mile to get to the testing center.

I am starting to think that my testing center needs to be changed. I am in the Denver area and go to Regis just because their testing center instructions are the most well laid out online.

I am going to do some research. My DH just enrolled in TESC and my 15 year old is going to start doing CLEPs too, so this could get really expensive between the three of us. Not to mention that the Regis testing center has some pretty strict hours. I don't like that you have to schedule at least five days in advance. There have been a couple of times where this has been inconvenient.

THANK YOU for the info that will hopefully save us some serious money over the next few years..

*off to make some phone calls to other area colleges*

Update: I found out that I can go to a nearby community college and the fee is only $25 dollars. Not to mention that I can go any time that the testing center is open; 8:00am-8:00pm M-F and 9:00-1:00pm on Saturday.

I am switching!!! Thanks so much for the help. :-)

That's great news! I love saving money.

(Each test center has its own pros and cons, so it may take a few tries to find the "perfect" one.)
