Brainstorming an idea for a future programming project - Big 3 degree planner
#1
I have kicking around an idea for a small web project that will have to wait until I am in a programming class because I can't spare the time on it right now.

It would be pretty handy to have a webpage for each of the popular degrees at the big three. I know there are tons of degrees, but most people are doing business or liberal arts. On this form you could have a section for each of the major requirements like Written English, Humanities, Natural Science, etc. Then provide a drop down menu that lists the exams and popular independent study sources that have been accepted in the recent past. Once someone has selected a source for each, show a credit needed and credit total at the bottom of the form and allow them to print a degree plan.

Other than the drop down menu, I build spreadsheets like this on a regular basis; regular meaning every time I get the wild idea of changing majors. Smile

It would take some work to maintain, but I am sure there are people who would be willing to help maintain a given degree.

If there are any programmers reading this who would like to steal the idea, it is all yours. Like I said, I won't have the time to mess with it until I have a programming project due for a course.

Actually, I'm in the process of working on something very much like this. However, I also only have 4 more courses plus a capstone that I need to finish in order to earn my degree. I've decided to quit procrastinating and to finish my degree, but I'd like to come back to this project once I'm done.

Sounds great! Justin (Chebasaz), the owner of free-clep-prep.com, has mentioned working on a similar project. Be sure to check-in with him about how it is going.
