I think the only people who need to worry about protein intake are poor people from third world countries. You'd be amazed at how easily we reach our required protein amount, particularly on a western diet. Vegans can also get tons of protein from nuts, seeds, and a wide variety of other things, even brown rice and other non-processed foods.

I love meat, I can't live without it. But if you take the average vegan and the average meat eater, i'd say statistically the vegans are much healthier. We get a TON of BS thrown our way from meat industry lobbyists, particularly from pork and beef producers. But hot damn, meat is so damn delicious, how could i ever live without it.

Actually, unless they are avid athletes with great diets and below "ideal" body weight, that BP is pushing being too low. Everyone is worried about hypertension, as they probably should be, but hypotension also exists.

Yeah it's pretty easy, and unless you are used to eating meat every meal you don't really notice the lack of meat in your diet. I ate vegetarian for 2 months on a dare and I didn't really notice a difference, but I have such a high metabolism that it doesn't really matter what I eat.

I agree. My Mother sometimes suffers from too low blood pressure, which causes her to be weak, dizzy, and faint. We often see guidelines that say that blood pressure below a certain level is healthy, without mentioning any lower limit to the healthy range, and ignoring the fact that low blood pressure is not healthy.

In relation to the discussion on diet, I reiterate that moderation is key. We should not eat too much meat or sugar or anything else. But we need a moderate amount of protein, starch, carbohydrates, healthy fat, fiber, and other things.

I would agree that moderation and variation are the keys to being healthy. Also, I do not think that the meat is bad for you, but the chemicals in it. It is a plus if you or your family is in a postion to raise their own grass-fed beef. I think, it is the over-consumption of carbs; which to me is the most damaging to someone's health. Nor would I ever agree with those who are vegan; even if they know what they are doing.

My advice is to take education advice from those with advanced degrees, financial advice from those who have a pot to piss in, and diet/exercise advice from those that have achieved the body you wish to achieve.
I have heard a lot of dietary advice from obese people in my time.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the US. It is also the major contributor to disability.
Therefore, women need to eat more appropriate foods, reduce calories, and get out and exercise more.
3% of women will die of breast cancer while 30% of women will die of heart disease. Heart disease is preventable in most cases and is a direct result of lifestyle choices over time.

Read this article. Its pretty sobering.

That article seems a little old like the late 1990's. But one of the points it did not make is that only 3% of women may die of cancer but a much higher percentage of women do get breast cancer. The percentage of women that die from it has been greatly reduced by awareness, prevention and early detection and treatment. Hopefully with the better awareness more research, and better detection less women will die from heart disease in the future.

Lots of women do not want to take the proper measures to prevent heart disease but men are just as stubborn. Some people just think it won't happen to them it just happens to other people.

Socially heart diseases is considered a man's disease, so it is often misdiagnosed with women. Women also are told that they are healthier than men so they probably have their guards down and don't take cholesterol medicine like men do.

Another interesting fact is that females of all species live longer than males, so its not just our beer guzzling, chicken wing eating, cigar smoking lifestyles at play here. A male's genetic fitness is not affected as much by his health than a female's so females who reproduce tend to be healthier than those who do not, in aggregate. Natural selection has bread females that are genetically healthier so as to propagate the species.

Gerontologist Dr. Thomas Kirkwood​ is director of the Institute for Aging and Health at Newcastle University in England and also author of the book, Time of Our Lives: The Science of Human Aging. His theory to explain women’s longevity: in humans, as in most animal species, the state of the female body is very important for the success of reproduction. The females of most species live longer than the males. This phenomenon, he claims, suggests that the explanation for the difference within humans might lie deep in our biology.

“The fetus needs to grow inside the mother’s womb, and the infant needs to suckle at her breast. So if the female animal’s body is too weak, there is a real threat to her chances of making healthy offspring.

“But the man’s reproductive role, on the other hand, is less directly dependent on his continued good health. “
