Another "need advice please" thread :)

My daughter is considering doing a BA through one of the Big Three, with the intention of going on to grad school for something in the medical field, possibly CNP/Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant. Currently she has an AA in Liberal Arts, and graduated with Honors, so has a great GPA if needed for grad school.

Would it likely make the most sense for her to do a BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Social Sciences, or would it be faster to do a BSBA or something? And which school? I will list her credits below. We would love to have some suggestions as to a good route for an undergrad. Thanks!

These are all 3 semester credits, except for the sciences with labs, which I have marked as 4 credits.

Those programs will likely have science course prerequisites which would need to be taken, preferably in classroom. It also couldn't hurt for the degree to be in Biology or some other science discipline, but it's usually not strictly required. It's usually best when planning on grad school to check into the programs you would like to apply to and find out what their admission requirements are, then work that back into the bachelor's you choose.

There is no need for a biology degree. It can work against her for admissions purposes since medical schools like to diversify and most applicants will have a biology degree. Plus, biology majors don't even do all that well on the MCAT, so they probably won't do all that well on other entrance exams for various healthcare programs.

Unless she plans on applying to a direct entry MSN program, she is going to need either an associates in nursing plus a non-related bachelors or a BSN.

If she's trying for a PA program, I think she better do all the pre-requisites at a local school, preferrably not a community college. PA programs are very competitive. Or do a post-bacc program. They will want to see good grades on those specific courses.

My husband's 2 cousins went through ROTC and got Computer Science degrees, then came out after 4/6 years in the Marines, and decided to go to med school. They both went to state colleges to do their science/lab pre-reqs, and both got into good med schools.

I know your daughter doesn't necessarily want to go to med school, but it's just to show that your degree doesn't have to be in Biology.
