thanks for the good information on this option for math. I'm wanting to teach in Tx too. However, when I was young and didn't know how to argue with my advisor, I got talked into taking a calculas class as my first math class. The problem with that is that in order to count for my degree, I have to take a math classer at a higher level than what I have already taken. I have no desire to take Calculas 2. I'd been debating taking the algebra clep, but the option you outlined isn't much different cost wise than what I'd spend on clep, and would give me a letter grade for Tx. It's actually cheaper than taking the class at the local jr college.
Thanks again for the information & option.

hunger4god, thank you for all the information and I sincerely wanted to say, tho off topic, thank you for serving our country! Much respect!
ok back on topic. I googled the algebrator and came up with this web address which said the algebrator 4 (which is their newest version now with logarithms and easier interface) was $39.99 from their website when it's regularly like 74.99. I thought maybe I'd gotten a clone sight or something so I emailed them at the main site and they said they run specials for those who use google to find them...the special isn't accessible from inside the site, so to speak.
anyway, here is the link in case anyone is interested.

That's great! Thanks for the info. I just enrolled in the college algebra course and submitted my application for FHSU (which also has very good pricing for Masters degrees btw.) I am very excited about this course as I have failed Clep College Math 2x's now and I only need 3 math credits to finish my degree. After failing College Math again this last time I didn't want to take anymore cleps or dantes... I am officially sick of them. hilarious

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do very well. The thing that's great about Straighterline is you don't have time limits and you can pace yourself as you please. Also you get instant feedback from your test scores. Don't rush through it though. Take your time. Use some of the helpful math websites quoted elsewhere on this forum. Some of them were priceless for me.

I'm looking at Straighterline for my algebra requirement, just wondering, why Fort Hayes vs the other colleges? If this has already been covered- sorry- I am just wondering is it because they give you a grade and are the least expensive? I know a few of the partner colleges have various requirements- just looking for the most straight-forward method. THanks

They do give you a grade and least expense.

Anyone know if the other partner colleges (besides FHSU) provide grades for straighterline courses?
