Best BA/BS/BSN option for a friend

Effective Communications 3 CU’s SL $150 Straighterline Communications
Information Management and the Application of Technology $150 Straighterline SL intro to IT

BSN Core- take at WGU, self-paced:

Professional Roles and Values 3 CU’s
Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership 3 CU’s
Community and Population Health 3 CU’s
Community Health and Population Field Experience 2 CU’s
Evidence Based Practice and Applied Research 3 CU’s
Leadership and Professional Image 2 CU’

Why wouldn't the Speech course she took count as Effective Communications? Athought, if you really thought she needed a communications course in there, wouldn't this help more (possibly getting 2 competencies out of the way): CSU-Global's Communication Strategies for Leaders (ORG423)

I also think CSU-Global's Leadership course would help as well: Principles and Practices of Effective Leadership (ORG405)

I'm just thinking the $250/$500 cost could make it easier to stick within the 6-month term for the rest of the courses.

Just some thoughts.

I like the way you think, but don't want to tell her to do anything that won't for sure work. I fear that "leadership" is going to be something specific to nursing. "Communications" is often held differently than speech, hence my specification...if that isn't right tell me Smile

Also, the leadership is only listed at 2 credits on WGU's list, so I'm thinking that isn't going to be terribly difficult to just knock out with them. I know the ledaership completed in my MBA through them wasn't particularly hard, a little tedious, but not hard or overly time consuming.

Pre-Nursing Prerequisites for the B.S. Nursing (Prelicensure) | WGU Nursing

This link is titled as prelicensure, but I'm fairly confident that the policies for course correlation will be the same for the RN-to-BSN.

Thus, Chemistry 1 can't be substituted for Biochemistry. However, WGU's Biochem class isn't particularly difficult. It's pretty tedious, but not difficult. If she takes a 3-day weekend, she can probably complete it within the weekend.

Speech will actually satisfy the Comms requirement.

You're correct in your assessment that a general leadership course will not satisfy the requirement for nursing leadership. For any core nursing course, the transferred credit would have to be from a nursing course.

I think any speech course will satisfy a Comm requirement, but any Comm course may not satisfy a Speech requirement (all speech is comm, but not all comm is speech kind of thing).

I amend my recommendations then, to Stats (ALEKS), Sociology & IT (SL). Make sure she uses the ASH100 coupon for SL!

Ok cool, so bio chem at WGU and drop the communications as speech satisfies.

Otherwise good? The SL IT course will work for that requirement?

The IT one I don't know, just guessing. If she has the free $100 coupon for SL, and is doing Sociology, and thinks taking the IT course might make it easier to take the IT course at WGU even if the credit doesn't count, it's $74. Not a bad price to make life easier later.

I guess no one is going to listen to my recommendation or everyone is too lazy to look up the equivalency chart at SL. This takes out all the guess work, but probably doesn't include the new courses.

WGU - College of Health Professions Course Equivalency Guide | StraighterLine

On the WGU website, they tell you which alternative sources of credit can be used for the pre-licensure BSN.

Alternative Sources, Specific Requirements for B.S. Nursing (Prelicensure)

They also list alternative sources of credit for humanities, quantitative literacy, humanities, and social science.

I looked at SL. The only issue is that the IT course is so new, no one has it on their equivalency charts yet, so that's not helpful for that one in particular.

I looked at the WGU list, and figured out that the speech course she took will work towards comm. And figured out that the SL Sociology course will work as well.

Not sure why you would think we didn't take your recommendation?
