I'm not sure anyone here is in this program. Myself and several others on this board are enrolled in the BS in health sciences in healthcare management at EC. I doubt you will find an AS degree at any school in this area. Usually at the AS level it would be things like medical office administration, medical assistant, healthcare information technician, radiology tech, paramedic or other allied health care fields.
If you haven't looked at the EC program you may want to check it out. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. It looks like that's only a certificate though correct? It seems like the Health Sciences degree at EC is only for paramedics/emt's, etc.

Hi,
No! The BS at EC has the option of 3 degree major's, healthcare management, end of life care or healthcare education. They also offer 3 graduate certificates for those that don't want the degree. The graduate certificates are in healthcare informatics, end of life care and I believe healthcare managment. I will be doing the EC graduate certificate in healthcare informatics when I finish my degree. The EC BSHS is open to anyone. I actually believe the TESC program is only open to those who currently hold an allied health certification/license. I know one of the TESC program I looked at had this restriction, so that is another reason I chose EC. The EC BSHS was also running a special where they were waiving the $895 enrollment fee. So it is free to enroll. I'm not sure when this expires, but it was still available the last time I looked at the BSHS home page. That is a great savings if you are paying out of pocket! Good luck!

marianne202 Wrote:Hi, WOW! you just made my day! I was misinterpreting that particular page on the EC sight. To me the EC sight is kind of vague. Great name BTW! You share my wife's name. She spells hers with a 'Y' though! Oh yeah, that enrollment is still waived!

Last question Marianne: And I think I posted this in another thread somewhere on here. But I just read in the EC Health Sciences catalog under "admissions" on page 13 that "the baccaulaurete program requires a minimum of 20 credit hours in a health science field for admission." The only thing i've done for the past 20 years is fly airplanes! Did you have prior experience in a health science field to enroll in BSHS HC management?

Don't panic this just means that you have to have 20 credit hours under the applied professional side or health sciences as part of your degree. Things like the DSST here's to your health and substance abuse exams fall into that category. So you would need to have 20 credits that would apply as such.
I did work in allied health but some of the classes they took and applied were EMT training and EMS related courses as well as a few of the ECE nursing exams that I took years ago. Most of them are worth 5 credits each so good bang for your buck. I'm not sure how they fair with EC but some of the FEMA courses may count as HS applied professional if health related. If you are in the military a combat lifesaver course should count. I used to teach those, so I know what they contain. An EMT course is a fun easy course to take which will give you a good basis if you want to get into the healthcare field in any area. Most of the EMS courses are taught at the CC level and should be easy to get locally if you needed to. EC also has lots of nursing related courses that would count. My Nutrition course was counted as a HSE too. They wouldn't be that hard to get even if you haven't taken anything before. So don't let that discourage you if this is a route you want to pursue. I will also tell you that they are working on an MBA bridge program at EC for the BSHS in management students. They are supposed to have that up and running next year. So if you had thought about going further after the BSHS that may be of interest. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will try my best to help.
