BSBA COSC Plan
#1
Hey guys,
Been poking around the site for a couple days and am in the process of putting together a degree plan. Here's what my outline looks like so far.

General COSC Education:
Literature and Fine Arts (a) 3 credits- CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (6 credits)
Social/Behavioral Sciences (b) 3 credits- CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics (3 credits)
Ethical Decision-Making (d) 3 credits- ECE Ethics-Theory & Practice (3 UL credits)
Communication-
Written (e) 6 credits- CLEP College Composition (6 credits)
Oral (o) 3 credits- DSST Principles of Public Speaking (3 Credits)
U.S. History/Government (u) 3 credits- CLEP History of the United States I (3 credits)
Non-U.S. History or Culture (n) 3 credits- CLEP Western Civilization I (3 credits)
Global Understanding (g) 3 credits- DSST Western Europe Since 1945 (3 credits)
Mathematics (q) 3 credits- Thinking about taking ALEKS for this not sure. Either that or CLEP College Math (6 Credits)
Natural Science (s) 3 credits- CLEP Biology (6 credits)

That would get me around 42 credits (3 being UL)

Concentration - Business Administration
Financial Accounting 3 credits- Not sure on these accounting ones, does the CLEP qualify? Should I do straightline?
There's CLEP Financial Accounting /ECE Financial Accounting/ DSST Principles of Financial Accounting

Managerial Accounting 3 credits- Seems to be ECE Managerial Accounting, not sure if it counts though, and I think straightline as well.

Finance 3 credits- DSST Principles of Finance (3credits)

Information Technology/ Management Information Systems 3 credits- DSST Management Information Systems (3credits) ( I wonder if this would be overridden by CS GRE?, I wouldn't think so, but not sure"

Organizational Behavior 3 credits- DSST Organizational Behavior there's also an ECE one that appears to be UL. Would UL credits from these required sections count towards total number of UL needed for Concentration?

Management 3 credits- CLEP Principles of Management ( 3 credits)

Marketing 3 credits- CLEP Principles of Marketing (3 credits)

Capstone 3UL- MGT 499

Business Electives - upper level 12 UL credits-
DSST Business Ethics & Society (3UL)
DSST Money and Banking (3UL)
TECEP Strategic Management ( 3UL)

In these business electives could I add marketing courses?
TECEP Advertising (3UL) ?

Economics courses?
TECEP Financial Inst. & Markets (3UL)

So total that would be around 36credits (15 UL)

General + Concentration:
42+ 36= 78 Credits
15UL+3UL= 18 UL credits

So would need around 42 more credits, 12 more UL ones. I borrowed heavily from Burbuja0512's Business Degree Plan so I wonder if everything is still up to date.

My 42 general credits would pretty much all be Liberal arts ( I need a total of 60), with only around 1 or two concentration courses being LA. I don't think I'll have a problem though, as I only would need a few more.

I'm also thinking about taking the computer science GRE in April. I haven't looked into it to much, but it interests me, I have a lot of time I could spend on it. And it's very cheap $/credit. Being 24 credits, 9 UL/15LL.

Has anyone actually gone through the process of acquiring FEMA credits as a Canadian or international student? I saw a couple threads talking about it, but no success stories from what I've seen.

Should my next action be to talk to COSC? If I pay the application fee would they go through my plan and make sure everything works? I'm planning on not actually enrolling until I can finish most of my credits, from what I've seen I can take both of their required courses in a semester (but I'm not sure on that).

Also wondering what COSC's policy is like for testing. I remember reading somewhere that you have to test in order. Is this still true? Should I contact them about it?

I appreciate it if someone took the time to read this and answer a few of my questions. The forum has been very helpful so far in aquiring this information, and hopefully this can be helpful to anyone who's looking to go to cosc as there's not a ton of information out there.

I have absolutely NO answers to any of your questions, but I wanted to welcome you. COSC has a good reputation for consumer service, so you can try contacting them without applying. They did - and may do - a webinar type thing. It's live on...Mondays? You can send in your questions, and the fellow might answer them. (check their web site for more info.) Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll make sure to check out their site. That webinar sounds like a good idea.

byzantine, did you get any other help on this? I just started the cornerstone at COSC and I am planning on the same concentration you mentioned. I may be able to answer some of your questions. I will tell you what my thoughts are so far. Everyone at the school has been more than helpful. They transferred in all of my Associate's degree credits and I worked off off the preliminary transfer sheet after the evaluation to plan my CLEP/DSST tests. The testing policy is very liberal and they will work with you to answer specific questions. It has been a great experience working with the school and their goal is to help you complete your degree, if you prefer testing, they respect that. Basically, if a CLEP/DSST has the same name as the requirement i.e. Financial Accounting (clep) I was told you are good to go and have been treated as such.

Macro & Micro CLEPs
Financial Accounting CLEP
Managerial Accounting ECE (if you can find a test center) these are $95 plus a $12 transcript fee
Principles of Finance DSST
Management info Systems DSST
Organizational Behavior DSST
Principles of Management CLEP
Principles of Marketing (I took this as part of my associates but clep or dsst should be fine)

For the Upper level Business Electives you need 12 credits so you pick 4 tests. These are the ones I can think of but there may be others also.

Business Ethics and Society DSST (this will also count in part of the gen ed)
Business Law II DSST
Labor Relations ECE
Money and Banking DSST
Human Resources ECE

The rest of the credits to make up the difference between the Concentration and GEN ED can most likely be "free electives"
You can add any other test to complete that I am sure.

I am not sure taking BOTH the Cornerstone & Capstone at the same time is possible. Even if you blast out all of your tests and meet the requirements you still need to do a CPS (concentration plan) and part of that is writing a rationale along with a research paper in the cornerstone for approval. I am not sure if you can work on your degree rationale, and research paper (even if you are done with the requirements) and take the final class at the same time. The cornerstone gets you familiar with using the COSC class portal online and the structure of their classes.
TESTS PASSED

Intro to Law Enforcement (70) DSST, Criminal Justice (461) DSST, US History 1 (71) CLEP, US History 2 (66) CLEP, Civil War & Reconstruction (67) DSST
Business Ethics & Society (447) DSST, Principles of Management (65) CLEP, Principles of Supervision (450) DSST, Organizational Behavior (60) DSST
Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union (56) DSST, Intro to World Religions (469) DSST, Management Info Systems (448) DSST, Prin of MACROeconomics (63)
Prin of MICROeconomics (64) CLEP, Labor Relations (A) ECE, HR Management (B) ECE, Principles of Financial Accounting(65) DSST, Prin of Finance (408) Money and Banking (52) DSST
