BSBA CIS or BSAST IT
#21
dfrecore Wrote:The BSBA CIS is not very flexible, as there is not a lot of space there for extra courses you may have already taken. If you have lots of credits, then you definitely need to see where TESU puts them before you can make a decision about it.

Regarding CS over IT, I do not agree that it's a better degree. It's only better if you need it. My husband has worked in IT for many years, and a CS degree is totally irrelevant to what he does - it would not get him anything special in his work or industry. A BSAST in IT or BSBA in CIS is all he needs for his work (and even then, he doesn't have either and is doing just fine - but his IT certs have always helped tremendously). It's always important to see what direction you're going in, and then matching the degree to how you want to get where you're going.

attach is a copy of what credit is given on eval, this is for BA Computer Science, I've request a BSBA-IT

please help me out if you can to see which one might be best for me until I hear back from TESU. I almost complete 4 course from SL too, and I can take as many classes from SL as possible I can take at least 5 course a month.

It looks very bad for CS. CAP and CMP won't count at all. CIS sometimes doesn't count. In general, your courses are too applied for a CS degree which is a lot of theory. Can you do a what-if evaluation choosing BSAST IT and see how it shakes out?

None of these are CIS/COS courses. So, for a BACS, you're basically starting from scratch in the Core/AOS. Same with the BSAST IT I think. Nothing will work in the BSBA CIS either (not that you asked, just an observation).

You may want to look into the BSAST in Technical Studies, but even then I think you will have a hard time just because you don't have any UL courses completed.

If you're really interested in an IT degree, you might be better off at WGU. It's a BS rather than a BA, not sure if that matters? But it might just be an easier degree to complete, because they have a good way to get the courses that you need for the degree there, for a great price. They are a SL partner, so you won't lose the credits you have from there either.

Probably not what you want to hear, but it's the best I can come up with.

I agree with dfecore. If you go with WGU, you can and should continue your current plan with SL courses. Look for a transfer equivalence document (link) for any degrees you are interested and get as much completed as possible before enrolling. Your transfer credits for WGU are too old unless they apply to GE requirements, which have no age limit. You cannot transfer anything into WGU once you enroll, so you want to stay out until you are done with transfer credits.

Unless the BSAST what-if looks really promising, this might be one of those situations where it is better to discard credits rather than try to jam a square peg in a round hole.

I won't mind a BSAST, for my current job I just need a bachelor in the related field in order to move up. I am already doing all or most of the work, I just can't officially hold the title and the pay because i did not meet the requirements.

if I do the BSAST, is there anywhere I can do the UL courses? I am looking to get these done by mid next year if possible. I just haven't looked into WGU much, but I'll look into them and see.

I think with the amount of time and money it would take to get the BSAST (the UL credits as well as the science required), you could potentially save yourself a lot of time and money by going the WGU route. You get all of the Gen Ed's they require first, along with anything else you might be able to fit in there that you can take cheaply (Networking TECEP or CSU-Global CBE's, Web Development TCC, Database Management CSU-G, Prin of Management, Org Behavior, Project Management), and then finish your last courses in 1-2 terms at WGU at $2,750/6-mo term.

Just remember that with WGU, once you enroll, it's game over. You cannot transfer any additional credits in after that. So make sure you apply, transfer your credits, get your eval, finish up whatever credits you think you want to do outside of their program - and THEN enroll.

Another issue with the BSAST is that only 22 of your old credits will count in the AOS because they're too old without demonstrating currency of the course.

Here is the other thing with WGU. Since you work in IT, you should be able to demonstrate competency in many of the courses within a few days. Make sure you look at this (link) if you are doing SL and WGU IT.
