Hello!
My sibling is working through a degree plan for the BLS in Project Management at UMPI, they are doing great!
We were wondering about the Project Management class which you can take at Sophia, but it is encouraged you take at UMPI due to a template.
Can anyone offer any more insight into that? Ideally, they would like to take this class at Sophia now as they are rounding out their Sophia credits, but are afraid too if it will be too much of a hindrance once they actually get to UMPI.
Thanks!

None. Take all of the PM courses at UMPI as the template you create in BUS141 will be used again in BUS400 & BUS401. If you take BUS141 elsewhere, then you have to create the template without taking the course and this will slow you down. You learn in BUS141 exactly what you'll need to do to complete BUS400 & BUS401 pretty quickly. I complete both in 3 days with having the template from BUS141.

Jessica specifically disagrees with this. She thinks it's 100% ok to transfer in the Sophia course. I didn't go into depth on the subject because she seemed so sure of herself, but I wanted to share her perspective.

Jessica didn't complete BUS400 & BUS401. I did and had multiple meetings with Professor Dorsey about the projects required for those courses. Professor Dorsey wanted the template from BUS141 to be used. You cover everything you need for BUS400 and BUS401 in BUS141. There is no course content for BUS400 or BUS401. These 2 classes are not on YourPace. Instead you work with Professor Dorsey to complete them in Zoom meetings and emails. As of the spring semester she was still the professor for these courses.

You make a very compelling argument, so I honestly question why Jessica is advising the exact opposite. Perhaps it might benefit everyone if you're willing to reach out to her to discuss and see if she might change her opinion?

You're free to transfer in BUS141 but you'll create much more work for yourself with BUS400 & BUS401. Sophia's project management course doesn't cover anything from PMI which is the gold standard when it comes to project management. BUS141 follows PMI standards. It literally goes through part of PMBOK.

Jessica suggested, and I just skipped 141 to complete 400 & 401.
If the student has prior experience in project management, I don’t see the need for 141. Transfer it from Sophia. If you have no project management experience whatsoever, then 141 will help lay the foundation. And it is possible to teach 141 concepts in 400. Thats probably why Jessica suggests skipping 141. She works closely with the professor and deals with this day in day out.
Professor Dorsey teaches 400 & 401. These two courses were designed for in-person classes. Idea was that 141 would teach basics, 400 would be a mock project and 401 would be an actual project that student does/did outside of school. Thats why it is not on the course platform.
Dorsey is part of the leadership team at UMPI and UM. She has limited bandwidth. Something to factor in.. i.e: take these courses early in the term.
Hope this helps.

I thought that UMPI used to bring in the Project Management course from Sophia as being the same as BUS141, but then they stopped and now it comes in as a general elective only?
If this is the case, then it's a net benefit to you to take it, as it will help prepare you for the PM courses at UMPI, and give you an extra elective if you need one.

Here's how the transfer database shows the course as of right now:
