For the person who loves Shmoop classes, here’s an associate degree from Excelsior using as many of their courses as possible. It includes 12 hours from Straighterline to take advantage of the Straighterline partner pricing scholarship at Excelsior (Comp I, Comp II, Business Ethics, and Science).

Also, Excelsior lists areas of focus on associate liberal arts transcripts for 15 hours in a content area, and will list more than one if applicable. This plan includes an area of focus in English.

If you are interested in doing this, you should complete the Straighterline classes first, THEN apply to Excelsior for the partner pricing.

That's amazing! It will rival COSC, hmm, I wonder which one would be cheaper/easier/faster one.
And also wonder if COSC will treat Shmoop the same way for an AA + using FEMA credits.

I've never taken a Shmoop course. Any guesses what a reasonably-quick timeframe is that someone could do all these Shmoop courses? From there we can estimate a good cost for this. I like the plan.

They are not breeze-through courses, you actually have to think about the material. Still, they are non-proctored and only ~$90/ month.

I still hope that Shmoop will post their TESU equivalencies and that some will be upper level. Since Excelsior counts these all as lower level, though, they are good for an associate degree.

You could turn this into a BSLA area of focus in English by taking Study.com's Advanced Technical Writing and Coopersmith's Medieval Hispano-Jewish Poetry. You could also add an area of focus in History with Shmoops + DSSTs in Vietnam War, Soviet Union, American Civil War, and UExcel World Conflicts since 1900.

I plan on taking all the lit classes starting next month. Once I have taken the 4 most likely to be UL I'll submit to TESU and report back

I plan on taking Brit Lit, American Lit, Drugs in Lit and Women's Lit in January, and more if I can manage.

I got all the history courses done in about 3 weeks and that was barely passing them. I tried to get a lit course done also but It was just too much with all the other courses going on. I was hoping to get one done just to xfer it into TESU and see how they transcribe it so I could report back. They are def not breeze through courses and depending on your speed and how willing you are to work at a course each day I would estimate the 10 courses done in around 3months(average), I would say these probably couldn't all be done in a month, some people could prob do them all in 2 months, some in 4. So I would say a good estimate would be 3 month average.

I agree, Shmoop courses can't be zipped through. I took the Modern European History course and got a feel for exactly what it takes to pass, time and attention-wise..Forrtunately literature is my one academic strong suit, so I estimate one course a week is pretty doable for me, maybe even a little bit faster depending on what else is going on in my life.

Exactly what my daughter decided she wanted to do when the literature classes came up on Shmoop. She really doesn't care for the Shmoop format but she's willing to tolerate it. So I reorganized her COSC General Studies in History to a double-concentration in History and English.
