Associate Degree - Cheap and fast
#1
Dear All,

I would like to know what would be the best option and track to obtain an associate degree.

I would need to have the following credits to be found in the transcript:

- Chemistry
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Computer Science
- French
- English

A friend and I, would need to get the associate degree to be able to enter a training that requires certain courses validated (the one mentionned above).

We already have university degrees, but from different fields, and don't wanna go through the process of having them recognized or assessed.

Optional but not mandatory: use eventually that associate degree in a few years, to obtain a BSBA in Psychology.

Thanks for your help and ideas.

If you don’t actually need the associate’s degree, would Excelsior University’s OneTranscript Service (https://www.excelsior.edu/support-resour...ranscript/) meet the need for cheaper? You could get courses in all of those subjects from Sophia Learning and transcript them at Excelsior. They’ll be pass/fail, will that work for the training?

@kslamande, that's a good initial post, but it's missing all the important information asked for in the addendum and template, you missed that sticky thread above yours. Make sure to fill us in with all the information as it provides a better overview of your situation and what you have to bring to the table. Without this information, it'll be very hard to assist you without knowing your various variables at play: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

In regards to your two sentences below, you're going to run into issues: "We already have university degrees, but from different fields, and don't wanna go through the process of having them recognized or assessed." You're trying to go through shortcuts, there are none, you are going the longer way and will fail at audits when you're trying to graduate from the institution granting you the Associates.

"Optional but not mandatory: use eventually that associate degree in a few years, to obtain a BSBA in Psychology." The degrees are different, the BSBA is a Business Admin degree, the Psych is a different degree. Unless you had a typo and meant a BA or BS Psychology, or you're looking at a BA/BS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, you want to be 'correctly' indicating that, otherwise, it confuses people.

You need to be more specific about the courses you need. For example, you must already have English and Math credits in your current transcripts. Do you need something more? As for the science courses, do you need labs? Do you need a series of courses or just a single intro course in each? Are you international students and trying to avoid getting your transcripts transnational/evaluated? If so, I'd think that would be easier than taking a bunch of courses.

If you just need courses on a college transcript, you can either take them at a junior college, or take them through alternative credit sources and get them onto a college transcript. The easiest way to transcript alt credit is to enroll at TESU as a degree seeking student, then send your alt credits to them.

That will cost you about $100, not including the actual courses. You will then have them on a TESU transcript.

"Are you international students and trying to avoid getting your transcripts transnational/evaluated? If so, I'd think that would be easier than taking a bunch of courses." That's what I would think as well, having your credentials evaluated would be cheaper, easier, faster than completing classes - even alternative credit options may cost more, be slower in the long run, and depending on the classes, be harder to complete.

Not OP, but can you please share some information about what you mention:   "You are going the longer way and will fail at audits when you're trying to graduate from the institution granting you the Associates."  Is it like a financial audit?  Just curious because I've never heard of this.

Financial audit is one of a few, that would only hurt you if you're going for financial aid in the future... National Student Clearing House has all the details about your past colleges, degrees, financial aid, transcripts, international studies, etc. There are many Nationally Accredited and International institutions that use the NSCH for admissions, scholarships, transfer credit, etc.

It will affect your entry into the college/university at the Associates and higher levels, an example is, if the institution you're applying for have strict rules that require all your transcripts (international ones too), you need to provide them, otherwise it's an incomplete application and failure to do so, means you can't ladder your current credits to a degree.

Not only would the international transcripts help you with your admissions, it'll shorten the length required for completing the degree as well. I only see positives, even if you have 'crappy grades' for them (your youth years weren't as productive as you wanted), it's not going to affect your institutional GPA, it's just an entry point of many they look at in full details.
