Arts & Science vs Arts & Science & Applied Professional at Excelsior
#1
Question
Hi. I'm in the process of exploring educational options for my son.  I've created degree maps for far too many options, but now I'm trying to create a degree map using Sophia and Study.com classes for him to obtain a BSLA from Excelsior.  To do so, I need clarity on which classes fall into the Arts & Science category vs Arts & Science & Applied Professional category at Excelsior.

I know that Art & Science includes math, science, English, history, social science, and natural science.

I also know that Art & Sciences & Applied Professional includes business, computer science, and criminal justice.

Where do humanities and education fall?

Also, I'm less clear on classes such as Business 113: Business Communication which is clearly a business class, but falls under humanities.  Is there a cheat sheet of Study.com classes that transfer to Excelsior showing which category they fall into?

I have a spreadsheet of all transferable classes from study to Excelsior with the level, but I'm struggling with these categories.  I hope this all makes sense.  I'm new at this so I'm still learning.

Thank you for replying.  Yes, I do have that link.  However, there are some that seem like they could fall into either category.

First, you're kind of mixing up two things: Arts & Sciences - A&S - (humanities, social sciences, math, natural science) and Applied Professional - AP - (business, computer science/IT, everything else). Generally, you can look at it as TESU does: Gen Ed vs. Free Electives.

From what I've seen (I've seen a bunch of EC evals), Foundations of Education is a A&S at EC, but all other education courses are AP.

All of the Ethics courses are considered Ethics/Humanities except SOCSCI 108: Ethics in the Social Sciences, which is Ethics/Social Sciences. Just depends on where you need credits.

Business Comm (and Org Comm, Managerial Comm) are all considered Humanities.

Also, most of Study's criminal justice classes (theory based) are A & S except for Forensic science (application based) which is a free elective.

Also, for others, I've confirmed that the Upper Level Cornerstone for a BALS/BSLS is considered an Applied Professional course not an Arts & Science that I would have expected.

Should we assume that the capstone course for BALS/BSLS  is also "Applied Professional"?
