hello all.
I need some maths credit. from a financial perspective, i see that ALEKS is cheaper.
I understand that there is one CLEP that is not covered under ALEKS (College Math)
ref:
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...esc-3.html
are there any other compelling reasons to take, for example:
CLEP Pre-Calculus as opposed to ALEKS Pre-Calculus.
in other words...
if you can do it thru ALEKS, you should always do it with ALEKS, unless ....?
(a) no unless.
(b) (some other reason?)
Currently I am only considering the financial benefit. Not sure if other alternatives are better in other terms.
Thanks.

Does your school accept ALEKS? I suspect more schools accept CLEPs.

If I were starting over I would prioritize alternative credits in the following manner for maximum transfer potential. But, this is coming from someone who has changed colleges and majors multiple times.

Assuming you're attending a school where both are accepted, ALEKS is for sure cheaper (if you're good and fast at math). If an ALEKS class takes you less than 2 months, you're ahead. If it takes you 3, you're breaking even. If it takes you into a 4th month, it would be cheaper to CLEP.
ALEKS is open book, CLEP is closed book
ALEKS can be completed at home, CLEP requires putting on clothes.
ALEKS allows you to retake an assessment as often as you want, CLEP costs $ per retake and 3 month wait period
ALEKS is self-contained learning, CLEP you find your own resources
I'll go ahead and say it.... lots of people cheat on ALEKS, it's talked about pretty openly, even here. I'm not your mom or priest, but cheating on CLEP would be considerably more difficult, which is why CLEP is widely accepted where ALEKS is hardly accepted- but if your school accepts it, then go for it!

From our experience, ALEKS was pretty straightforward and wasn't too difficult for us. Honestly, it was way easier than we expected... and we didn't cheat.
And if it's easy, you obviously get it done sooner, which in this instance means ALEKS is considerably cheaper (like cookderosa already said). Also, we were given a free trial period for like a month, and TESC accepts it, which made ALEKS a no-brainer.
Hope that's helpful! Cookderosa's post is spot-on.

Ohhh that's right about the free trial period, I'd forgotten about that. If you can get a month for free, you might be able to do a whole class!
