Arizona Colleges change CLEP policy
#1
I just discovered that most, if not all of the Arizona community colleges are changing their CLEP policy to match that of ASU, UofA, etc.

There are only 4 credits given for College Composition, 0 credits for Management Principles, 0 credits for Marketing Principles, and "The general studies requirement in natural sciences (SQ and SG) and Literacy and Critical Inquiry (L) are not satisfied by CLEP."

It is apparent that the universities of Arizona and its' community colleges are not interested in adult working learners. Therefore, I have transferred to TESC and will complete my degree there.

That's pretty lame, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't suppose they gave any reasons why? Most of them don't. SNHU's excuse was that they did not feel that CBE matched the quality and vigor of a classroom, online or off. Those same people have probably never taken or studied for a CLEP or DSST test, though.

And when you say they give 0 credits for a test, is it just a pass/fail or do they no longer accept the test?

I don't know about Arizona CC's but ASU has a rather liberal CLEP/DSST policy. In fact some exams like CLEP Biology and Chemistry are good for 8 credits...that's more liberal than the official recommendation. https://catalog.asu.edu/credit_exam#CLEP
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

It could also be that by not accepting the tests that they want to force students to pay for classes. A purely economic reasoning - testing facilities (colleges) only make $15-25 for administering exams - they make much more otherwise. I would bet anyone they are very interested in adult learners but more so in their wallets than in creating flexible learning opportunities.

Do you have any links? The quick searches I'm doing show a very generous CLEP and ACE policy.2.2 Admission/Registration/Enrollment

Here is the link to the Maricopa Community Colleges CLEP policy. If you scroll down about half way, you will see the table.

2.2 Admission/Registration/Enrollment

A couple of things to keep in mind here: while they will award you a generous amount of credits for Humanities, Social / Natural Sciences, and History, they DO NOT apply to the general studies requirements. You will still need to take those courses to receive credit for the general studies areas. Also, only 4 credits for English will require you to still take ENG102, no credits for Management or Marketing.

When I called to inquire about the changes, dated March 2012, I was told that Maricopa Community Colleges were matching the three state universities CLEP policies.
