Are the ALEKS Assessment tests timed?

Are the ALEKS Assessment tests timed? I was taking the stats assessment (initial) test and I was on question #18, shows 75% completed, then after I hit next, it said I was complete. I assume it was timed, but I didn't know that otherwise I would have skipped questions that were too difficult.

Can someone confirm?

No, they are not timed. They use an AI interface that tries to gauge the amount of topics you are familiar with and what you need to work on. It creates a pie from that. As a trial run, I had done a final assessment over 3 days for fun, as I knew Beginner Algebra was not worth credit at the Big 3. If you are 75% completed on the initial assessment, you are done my friend. Get that sent to ACE and go for another one to max the credits for cheap.

Thanks. I thought they may have been timed as the assessment stated that there were 25 questions, I only got through 18 of them, so I stated 72% (really 72%) completed of the 25%. I received a 55% on the test. I feel like if it allowed me to complete all 25 questions, then I would have gotten a 70% passing grade.

A suggestion is to maybe spend an hour or two completing the pie, get the easiest one (most completed pie section). Then the next day request a new assessment. I had a 58% on my initial assessment and worked a few hours to complete a portion of the easiest pie sections, then requested another assessment. I had 72% for my second assessment and was done with intermediate algebra. It's strange, I think I get better with more practice as my memory isn't as good as it used to be. I hate formulas and remembering them.

I wish mine did, stuck in the low 60s and it's slow going. The frustrating part is after 20 years of being very successful in business and never needing the quadratic formula I am spending hours on it

I feel you. With many years of experience in fields that have no degree (Stock Plan Administrator is still one of my favorite jobs), plenty of time in accounting/finance/HR/compensation, I know for a fact that I will NEVER use statistics (or even College Algebra) in my job (I would not take a job that required those kinds of skills because I wouldn't enjoy it). BUT, I am required to learn it for the degree, so I will learn it. But it sucks...

Regarding a post upthread, Excelsior will still take ALEKS Beginning Algebra to satisfy their math requirement for Liberal Arts and Public Service degrees. Business, Health, Nursing, and Technology degrees require higher levels of math, but you could still use Beginning Algebra for additional arts and sciences credits.
