Are Standard Deviants worth using?
#1
For those of you who watched them are they worth it? Are they good enough to use as your only study source and pass some of the exams? Due to working full time along w/taking 3 regular classes a week I have limited time for studying for clep. All I'm needing are elective classes so I'm basically looking to take the easiest tests w/the least amount of studying. Thanks

I think they are great! I check them out from my local library. Have used them several times for many subjects. I just finished using the set of (2) for American Government. I'm taking the test next week. Hope this helps.

How much do you know about your subject? I had not taken Biology since the 10th grade which was 20 years ago. I allowed 3+ weeks for study which should have been ample time for me to read a Biology textbook cover to cover and take notes. That didn't happen! I read about 8 chapters of a 50+ chapter textbook when I began to lose focus and motivation. I did nothing for 2 weeks. I was 3 days away from my test date when picked up the Standard Deviants Biology DVD set from my local Community College library. I watched each DVD at least twice, read Cliff's, and some homemade flash cards. I passed. This is not an endorsement of my tactics quite the opposite, but I was impressed with SD even though it was filled with bad jokes and even worse wigs and costumes! If you can't find SD in your local library check out the streaming videos available on this site Studio 4 Learning.

No Problem. Yes, I always use multiple resources. For this American Government Test I used Cliff's Notes, IC, posts from the AG Thread & the videos. For me, the video brings everything together. They are also kind of fun to watch. You can call the 1-800 number at the end of each tape if you have any questions on the subject.

I have used them, but I belong to netflix Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases so I'm not buying them a la carte. For me, I like them, but wouldn't "pay" for them.
There is another free source of info you might try:
Teacher Professional Development and Teacher Resources by Annenberg Media They have thousands of videos. Go into the "subject" by "grade" and don't restrict yourself to adult/college, just browse around. When you find an interesting title, open it up, and inside will be 10, 20 or even 30 videos on the topic. Most are 30-60 minutes.

I used SD Biology and Chemistry I for the Natural Sciences General CLEP, and it worked like a charm. I made a 63 on that test, which I probably wouldn't have passed without SD.

SD are good but sometimes there is too much humor and joke but overall It was useful, youtube is an awesome tool as well when you are looking for a specific topic Wink
