Hi everyone, I'm new to IC (signed up about a week ago). I'm currently studying for my first CLEP, which is Principles of Marketing. I took my first Peterson's test (online) and scored a 57%. I decided to take it untimed so that I could get a feel for the material, but I plan on taking at least two more that are timed. Multiple sources have informed me that Peterson's tend to be harder than the real thing. I've found a thread on this, but I really wanted some fresh opinions. Can anyone who has experience with both tests give a comment or some advice? Thanks!

My Peterson scores for the Marketing CLEP were 50%, 49%, and 54% in that order. I got a 68 on the real CLEP. Usually peterson tests are harder than the CLEP. The thing to remember is that the 57% does not mean that you got a 57. It means you scored 57% right, but CLEP scores take your raw score and convert it to a scaled score between 20-80.
Hope that helps!

I concur, peterson's are generally harder if not much harder. The questions make you think more. I did take one that was spot on, but now I can't remember which one, sorry.

PT scores:
REA—60% & 80%
Petersons—50% & 58%
OCSG—80%
Real Clep--70
Petersons were definitely harder and had more on math and business, but I don't mind if the PTs are harder than the real CLEP--it prepares you better

My experience is that the Peterson's tests are harder. I read somewhere on this forum that if you can get 50% of the Peterson's questions correct, take the CLEP or DSST. I have found that to be a true statement.
Good Luck

There isn't one correct answer that applies to all Peterson's tests. The Peterson's practice tests for CLEP College Mathematics don't match the test and should not be taken at all.

75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I

clep3705, I am thrilled you posted this since I was going to use Peterson's a couple days before the test to give me a gauge for passing. I am following the advice of many on here and using:
#1 Khan Academy (love it, but worry I am over studying things that are not on the test, since it's not set up for "CLEP College Mathematics" I am just putting in the key words, watching the videos then taking the quizzes till they turn dark blue (mastery).
#2 College Portal Video's the one on sets was very helpful
#3 Instant Cert flashcards, good, but there are some formulas I have never heard of in my life on there
#4 Official College Board CLEP College Mathematics Study guide. I did terrible on it completely raw. This is the first time that's ever happened to me. Math is like a different language to me, and I could use a good interpreter before I fully understand the language.
Any tips for CLEP College Math not already in progress above? This is my LAST CLEP before my last two TESC courses, I can't take the last 2 classes without finishing this blasted CLEP College Math. Previous to this cram session, I was on track to complete the math requirement with ALEK's, found out only a couple weeks before it went down...that was no longer a viable option if I wanted to enroll in Jan 2014 TESC courses.
Any advice?

Thank you all for your input. I just finished my second Peterson's and scored a 59% (which I know is not equivalent to a CLEP 59, don't worry ). Maybe something like a 5-point increase wouldn't have hurt, but at least I'm consistent! I actually expected to do slightly worse on this one. Definitely these tests feel a little like purgatory sometimes, but I love them if they'll make the real exam seem a bit easier in the end.

I havent taken marketing, but I can say for sure that for intro to psych and intro to soc, the Peterson's tests were much harder than the actual clep. Was scoring in the mid-high 80s on the Petersons, made a 77 and 72 on the respective CLEPs.
Good luck!
