Anyone use Rate My Professors .com?
#1
I have used it about 20 times. I especially like to put in the great ones!:hurray: I have put in a few bottom marks for a few professors. It is nice to see a report card on teachers as there are huge variances among them.

I don't think I have entered any reviews, but i have read them and they seem fairly accurate. Just took a trip down memory lane, and I see that that two of the professors that ruined my interest in chemistry haven't changed much in the last 20 years . . .

I've found it to be useful. It was better when they offered more granular ratings. I wish they had kept the clarity rating. I used the clarity rating more than the easiness rating when selecting an instructor.

Once I stumbled on posts made by students saying their instructor was disappointed that he wasn't rated as hot. His students went in and rated him hot to make him happy.

When paying several hundred dollars for a course, I'm more concerned about quality than easiness because I want to learn something. I was disappointed with some easy classes I've taken because I learned nothing. Even easy courses require some time and effort, and I don't want to waste any time or effort on something that's not going to teach me anything. In the first year of my PhD program, I made the mistake of taking statistics and regression with the easy professor. This meant that I had to take extra time later on to learn more about statistics in order to do well in future courses and the comprehensive exam. I tend to ask and listen to other students in my program about the quality of a professor's teaching because websites like Ratemyprofessor.com have selection bias. Those who have a grievance are more likely to write a review.

There is also the problem of many instructors not having any reviews, and they may be the only instructors teaching a course you need for that semester. I have no reviews on Ratemyprofessor.com.

Money often is not an issue. When I was a business major in the 1980's I did not care about having to take art history, sociology, spanish, (Man, Society & Technology course):ack:, etc. The college may think they were important, but not I then nor even now. Some classes just have to be taken, hold your nose, and find an easy instructor if you can! I concentrated my efforts on my major and two minors.

I make my kids use it, not so much to locate "easy" but rather to reduce the chance of encountering awful. We don't want the bass experience.

Harvard has an internal version called the "Q" guide.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

If you're looking to be in management (management is based off the social sciences), then important stuff can be learned in sociology and psychology. My background in the social sciences have made many business courses and tests rather easy for me. Organizational behavior and leadership courses are really just I/O psychology courses. I took Spanish in high school, but never became fluent. I wish I was fluent because it would give me more access to jobs that require or prefer bilingual applicants. When you're licensed as a corrections officer or peace officer in Texas, you have to take a Spanish course or test out. The CEU course is a rather basic one, though. However, I can understand that some people are in fields where they do not need to know Spanish. I do not need college algebra and probably never will. Most occupations don't require the level of math in college algebra to the point that articles have been written on why people have to take it. The overwhelming majority of occupations do not require any of the natural sciences, but I like learning about them out of pure interest. Plus, I have to teach science of addiction classes in my current job, so a background in biology is helpful. Although, my background in biology doesn't get me more pay.
