Hello,
I am hoping to get some feedback from individuals with degrees from (primarily) Excelsior or the other two schools that live/work in the SF Bay Area (or other major employment areas - Seattle, NYC, LA, etc.).
The reason I am specifying the location is because the competition can be a big more tough here in SF - there are a lot of really well educated people. My thought is that a Excelsior degree in Illinois might be more useful than one in SF.
Anyone care to comment? Maybe a private message? I am torn about my education path...some of my superiors at work are snobby about where people are going to school these days.
BTW, my plan is to get a B.S. in Health Sciences from Excelsior and then apply for a Masters program at a B&M - seems like the BA/BS from the Big 3 should not be your "final destination" education-wise.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!!

I work in the bay area and have seen a lot of Big 3 graduates in healthcare. What industry are you in?

MS - Management and Leadership, WGU 2022
BS - Liberal Arts - Depths in Healthcare and Psychology, Excelsior College 2014
Certificate - Workers Comp Admin, UC Davis Extension, 1995

Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun. Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior. And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

Yes, I thought about doing the ASN for years, but didn't do it before CA cut it off. You could do your ASN through Excelsior, get licensed in another state and still live in CA. I know a lot of nurses who fly to other close states to do 3 12-hour shifts then come home for 4-5 days, etc. You can also work at any VA facility in CA - they require a RN, but it can be from any state.

I'm in SF. Finished a BS - Business from EC earlier this year.
The big thing about jobs I have found, working in the corporate retail sector is that Recruiters / Temp agencies are the best way to get into any sort of job. For nursing that may be difficult, but I know there are many Healthcare Temp agencies in the area.
The great thing about an agency is:
you don't pay them, they get paid when you get paid - Companies pay the recruiters a premium (one job I saw an invoice for $59 per hour and I was being paid $22 per hour). They are great because the recruiters are putting themselves on the line to get you a job. It's their reputation at stake, so if you mess up then that's their potential future connections messing up.
Beneficial for both parties. If you do well it could lead to full-time, if you don't do well or its not for your your contract will end and you'll move on!
Just came back into the forum today too because I'm a little bored at work :-)
