since you aren't that familiar with computer stuff -- I'd start by going to the library and getting the Idiot's guide to Computer Basics -- or something along those lines. That would set you off to a good start - and would also be easy and attainable.

is instantcert enough? check "specific feedback"...

as for the difficulity of this test -- doable -- but be sure to study!

you can do it!!

Just make sure you cover some of the older information, a lot of the information on the exam was dated. I have been in the field a long time so I actually remembered a lot of the older stuff.

Jec959, Thanks for the tip ....that's good to know. What materials did you use to prepare for this test? I am planning on taking it in a week or two. Big Grin I found the instant cert quite easy. Do you think that it covers enough material to pass? Thanks again!

It was enough for me just to go through the instacert stuff a couple of times refresher on the older stuff. But like I said I have been in the industry over 20 years. You may need more than that if you don't have the base knowledge, I have found the specific exam feedback sections for all the exams I have taken to be extremely helpful. Snazzlefrag give especially good feedback, everyone's is extremely helpful though. Take the clep/petersons practice exams, there are links in the forums for them if you do a search.

I build all my own computers and know quite a bit about the user end, but that helped me very little. I knew nothing about the server end either. I just studied the IC cards; I knew them inside and out and earned a B. I usually advise people to take the free Peterson's tests but NOT for this one. The Peterson's test has NOTHING to do with the real test and will seriously erode your confidence; I know it did with me. Good Luck, Lee

I passed the Information systems and computer application yesterday!!! hilarious It was a little different than I expected....I purchased a clep study book for it by passbooks company(or somthing like that) The material in it was quite out dated and the breakup was different than the official practice test book. I also looked up all of the concepts on wikipedia. That seemed to cement it better in my memory. My mind was a little flustered....I had gotten on a wrong bus and took over an hour ride! (It was only supposed to be 10 min.!) Oh well! Needless to say I got a late start on the test. Ha!:o Well, thanks for the tidbits everybody.
