It's settled. I'm going to get an online J.D. that isn't ABA accredited just so I can put, "Dr. Thorne" on my business card.
I don't actually plan to do that, as it's horribly pretentious, but someone will.
One of the mentors at Patten University actually does this. All of her communications were signed as "Dr. Name, JD" but she didn't have any actual doctorate beyond the JD. Me and a lawyer buddy of mine had a chuckle about the pretentiousness of it.
To be fair, her law school is ABA approved, ranked in the T50.
I wonder what folks who consider their JDs as doctrates think of LLM degrees. Those are masters in law degrees, obviously below a doctorate, but you typically need your JD degree to pursue them. So if you think your JD is a proper doctrate, why would it be required to get the "lower" masters?
