Hi,
I am excited to say that I've signed up for Straighterline Accounting I. I am pretty excited about it and will make sure to post when it's completed and give feedback for anyone who's interested.
I do have a question about how the Straighterline classes show up on a transcript. Does it say "Straighterline" or does it just say "Accounting I?"
Thx

I believe it depends on the partner school you choose. If you use ACE it will show straighterline as the source.

It has been brought to my attention that it may be unusual for schools to make it appear that an SL class is intrinsic to the school. I would investigate Fort Hays, I believe they specifically will make the class appear as if it came from Fort Hays, but please do not take my word for it, my understanding of straighterline partner schools has been challenged and I too look forward to others answering this question.

If you transcribe it through FHSU it will appear on the FHSU transcript as
Summer 2010 Fort Hays State University
ACCT 203 STR Principles of Accounting I B 3.0 9.0
which will then appear on a TESC transcript as TRANSFER CREDIT from FHSU
If you have SL send it to TESC directly it will appear on the TESC transcript as
TESC - ACE
ACC 101 Prin. of Financial Acct CR 3.0
The advantage of sending it through FHSU is that letter graded credit from a regionally accredited college is given, which makes it likely that any other college will accept it in transfer. If you have SL send it to a partner college that doesn't give letter graded credit, then it will appear as pass/fail credit which isn't a big deal if you intend to pursue your degree from that college. However if you are thinking of trying to transfer that credit into a partner college, then transferring it out again, the pass/fail grade is a big red flag that the credit was not earned through traditional coursework at the college.

Rickyjo my man....what I have been trying to tell you is this. Just because one college accepts credit doesn't mean another will. For instance if you took your AA degree earned from Excelsior (using ACE Credits) and sent it to your state college with the intent to pursue a 4 year degree from them....it is likely that the state college would not give you the same credit for the same courses as Excelsior, especially if they don't accept ACE Approved courses like ALEKS. If you look at your final Excelsior transcript you will see that Assessment credit is categorized differently then transfer credit.
What makes FHSU unique is that they give letter grades for 4 SL courses, and the courses do appear as if they were taken at FHSU. If a SL partner college transcribes the SL (or any other) courses as pass/fail, regardless of the course description, then a huge red flag goes up telling the receiving college that the credit was earned non-traditionally. Many, many colleges won't accept pass/fail credit of this kind since the origin of the credit is in question.
Keep in mind that Excelsior gives graded credit for DSST exams. If you were to send a final Excelsior transcript to another college (that doesn't except DSST exams) expecting them to accept the credit, then you will likely be disappointed because Excelsior shows DSST as the original source of the credit.
The way that FHSU transcribes the 4 SL courses is unique.

FHSU transcripts them as their own however so does COSC with some of SL classes. I am pretty sure they do it with at least one of the accountings. I was checking SL and I notice the format of the accounting classes has changed. There are less tests now. Do they still give you 4 hours to complete each test?

I haven't taken a test yet. I have been spending time in the memory game section. (How fun!) To be honest, since I don't know what to expect from the test, I'm a little nervous and trying to memorize everything. Is this really necessary since it's open book? How hard are the tests?
Keep in mind that I really want to get an A, so I want to prepare adequately.

OK, so I was confused because I was unaware that FHSU was unique, I thought that was the norm. Thanks for clarifying that issue for me geezer.

Does anyone know if the mid term exams for Straightliner are an exact replica of the first half of the course exams?
I would like to know if I will see the same questions or not on the mid term as the other exams already taken. I am nervous about the exam.
Thanks for the help!
