American History 1 clep help
#1
Hi everyone!

I am taking this test on Saturday, August 1 and I have just been reading the REA book. Will this be enough to pass the clep?

Thank you! Big Grin

Are you an IC member? If the answer is yes, go to the Exam Specific Feedback area. People have shared what to study and their individual situation. For example, one person may use the same study material you are mentioning and tell you they put in x-amount of hours studying. The next person may have used only IC. Someone else may have Googled material or found and posted links to videos or other study material.

All will be revealed!

I successfully completed both US History 1 & 2 during the same sitting. I used IC; REA; and Pass Your Class.

Best of luck to you.

I took U.S. History this summer and used the REA book and just a brief look over InstantCert. I came out with a 78, so you should do fine. Remember the main themes throughout the early history of our country and connect the details to that. What are the main themes? You guessed it: slavery, states' rights v. federalism, and colonization and independence.

I used REA, InstantCert (if you're not a member I strongly recomend joining. Use promo code 71151 to save $5 off first month), and some vids from Resource: A Biography of America (great site).

Probably NOT. REA is a good overview but rarely provides enough detail for you to use it exclusively.

You've got a week, by all means sign up for InstantCert (if you haven't) and start doing the flashcards. They will help a lot.

Be sure you take all the practice tests in the REA book. Then read the answers and take the tests again.

Another great free resource is Sparknotes's overviews and practice tests. I'd go through all the eras up through the Civil War listed on this list:

I have failed this one twice with a 49:eek: I am not a history guy but what threw me was the maps. They would show a shaded map with boundries and ask what treaty of movement was the map refering to?? That and know your people, what parties they were with, what parties they ended up with, and what they did. Good luck with the exam I am going to attempt again in a month or so (my six months are up)

To all those who have replied,

Thank you so much for your help and I will look up some of the resources you guys have provided. I have take two REA tests so far. I scored a 50 on the first test and then 60 on the second test so I hope this means the real thing will be good! Smile Right now I am reviewing the REA book again and then I will take two days or so to review important dates, people, and etc.

After the test I will post my score... hopefully it is a passing score! Big Grin
Thanks again everyone!

That's great! I always tried to get a 60 or higher on REA tests and I never failed a CLEP. Smile

As to whether REA is enough... it depends. That's all I used, but I have a strong background in US History, especially the time period you're studying for. I definitely recommend InstantCert. It's great.
