Alternative Credit Project

KayV Wrote:That does not mean that TESC does not accept ALEKS. It just means that ALEKS is not part of the Alternative Credit Project. If you have college-level credits on your ACE transcript (like ALEKS), you would still be eligible for credit for them at TESC.

I know that, I just mean I'm suprised it is not part of the project

Used them for Organizational Behavior and Accounting. Don't recommend them. They provide all the material. It consist of videos, a transcript, practice exercises, then an end of unit exam that must be passed to move to the next unit. The courses I took averaged 180 lessons. These are not courses that can be done in two weeks putting in full time studying. The final is done through a third party, ProctorFree. The final is on ProctorFree's website. It is complicated to navigator to. To take the the final exam you have to contact customer service to set up a date and password once all course lessons and units are done; there is no automatic enroll or self setup. The final itself is closed book but, the layout is similar to SL's finals. The questions on the final do not always match the course material. OB matched well but accounting questions were not related to the course material. If an exam is failed there is a two week waiting period and $15 retake fee must be paid through pay-pal. Better to stick with SL.

TESC still accepts ACE. The big news here is that OTHER colleges have come forward-in writing- as accepting these specific ACE courses. Before now, it was kinda "cross your fingers" that you could find a college that took ACE. Beyond the big 3, there was no real list- it was all user-generated. There were names floating around here, but nothing formal. This makes it formal! Now you can consider a LOT of colleges besides the big 3, and I expect their list to continue growing!

Following up on this story, as I'm trying to research a degree completion plan for my wife. I attempted to look up what courses the University of Memphis would accept from the ACP. It looks like the U of M is no longer participating in the ACP, as they are not listed on the ACP website, and all of the former ACP-related webpages on the U of M website are now 404.

I'm saddened to discover this, mostly because I can't help but wonder if this was a money-grab issue -- more money to be made in tuition than in relaxing alternative credit policies. U of M's ACE/CLEP/DSST policies have never been very friendly.

Ah well, perhaps my wife can find a more reasonable alternative.

North Carolina lost one too. It's hard to make this giant puzzle work- keep in mind that not all courses are included- Sopia is one that is annoying, since only 4 courses count, and the rest would count through ACE, but some of my target school plans don't accept ACE.... What I really really wish, is that Global Freshman Academy Edx was on here - they are currently exclusive with Arizona State University. Sad

This Alternative Credit Project is great, but it doesn't change much. They have a small list of schools that accept a specific list of credits. Some of them don't even accept all of the credits from the Alternative Credit Project. When it comes to the majority of ACE courses/tests, there is still no guarantee that most schools or even schools that are part of the Alternative Credit Project will accept them.

Straighterline has been criticized for only having guaranteed transfer credits to their list of partner schools, but this project is being headed by Straighterline, and SL has done a very good job with attracting many partner colleges. Their list of partner colleges is much larger than the schools participating in the Alternative Credit Project. Hopefully, with their leadership, they can get more schools to participate.

The red highlight is mine. That is precisely why this is a big deal. Colleges have set up written agreements. The ACE database on its own is useless. It's inaccurate and misleading. This is the first list by ACE that guarantees transfer of specific courses into specific degrees.
