I spoke w/ the doctor guy who is the head of advisement I think he said. He was the first to nicely tell me to kiss off. Then I spoke with my adviser he told me no. Then told me he wouldnt tell me which femas I was missing because I did so many and should try to learn real things more or less. Then I sent about 3 emails here and there and i guess they all took turns laughing since they all work in the same office. I think they dont like me.
End of story they told me i duplicated on all stats. And wouldnt take my trig one because college math covered that section. I fig my trig class would have gone into free electives, nope,no way, go away is what i got.

I wonder if dual stats classes are only allowed for certain majors? Otherwise this makes no sense whatsoever. It also may be the advisor. I've read the science advisors are much better than their counterparts in the arts. I happen to be under the science umbrella as I am dual enrolled science & arts. Still they must receive approval from the same head of advisors. I hope this works itself out soon.
well crap.
ALTHOUGH, I have to say two things. First, if this is true, that means they are NOT re-classifying Business stats as a math class, but that it can be used as a stats requirement. This might be important to psych and business students- but it's bad news for every other BA major. Anyone in a BA plan willing to test this? I'd fall over dead if they gave someone liberal arts credit for that class...but stranger things have happened. That doesn't mean that they can't call it a duplicate, however, I would be VERY CAUTIOUS telling someone that they could use Business stats as their liberal arts stats. I think if I'm understanding this, well...I'll think this through a bit.
Second, I think I know who you spoke to, and if I'm right, she's an idiot (and I RARELY ever call someone an idiot, I think the last time was this same advisor a few months back lol).
Hummm... this doesn't mean she's wrong... but she's only been there about 8 months and she didn't seem like the kind of person who learns quickly...but I'll not speak unkind, maybe it's someone else. However, for her to sound so sure of how ALL the ALEKS/TESC students are evaluated is confusing since there have probably been about 2-3 people IN ALL who have even tried to send in all 3 ALEKS stats for a liberal arts major (if even that). Really, of the number of people taking ALEKS, how many are taking all three stats, and of those that are, who knows about ACE, and of those that are, how many are TESC students? WE ARE the population of people she is talking about. She's an idiot.
Hi NJ,
Yes, I understood the trig/pre-calc dupl issue....but let me ask you did you have the beh stats or bus stats. I was given intro and bus stats. The beh stats was labelled a duplicate to intro.
Let some time pass and if you have bus stats try again. I'm only guessing but maybe closer to graduation?

Cook, I'm a BA in Liberal Arts so I sent an appeal about this, I'll keep you posted. The advisor that told me this is a Graduate advisor and has been helpful up to this point compared to others I've dealt with. Not sure if this is the same one you are speaking of.

rickyjo Wrote:Oh then you are free and clear because you can knock out three FEMA credits in a weekend if you are really really motivated and TESC will take them for electives. Problem solved! Much faster and easier (and free) compared to ALEKS. You can get six credits in no time at all!
Really that easy. I got to look into FEMA too. Thanks.
taylor,
just for clarity what is your major? everyone who picks up the phone says stats is stats. when they evaluate the transcript things can change.[/QUOT
bricabrac, BA in Liberal Arts, you think that's what made the difference? If anything I thought this major would accept the most ALEKS courses. FYI My academic evaluation has all the courses I could possibly take through ALEKS that won't duplicate except the Business Stats.

Hmmm, I don't know. Sounds strange. Graduate Advisor...what's that? Maybe try making an appointment to speak with a real advisor, last time it took me 1-2 weeks for an appointment. But atleast you will get someone who know the rules. The other option is to request a transcript evaluation. This way they will see the difference in the stats courses. I heard the Arts Advisors are different than the Science Advisors. Maybe its not the advisor but the programs. Honestly at this point between your post and NJ I am totally confused.
Good luck!

Ok just got a final answer from the Head of Advisement or as nj295 mentioned as the doctor guy. He said unfortunately, Stats is Stats, those infamous words.
In my opinion, for all those currently taking ALEKS courses for credit at TESC I suggest you put all the courses on your Academic Evaluation now before they make further changes. It's the only recourse you have against policy changes. This will probably save you some grief. I know when I first started reading these ALEKS threads all 3 Stat classes didn't duplicate but now you can only get credit for 1 of the 3. It's still a great way to get credits regardless but as it stands now, 15 credits is the max for ALEKS courses without duplication but unfortunately that can change like the wind at TESC.
Oh well I guess I will go to Plan B for myself which would be the FEMA route.

Hi,
I haven't taken advantage of FEMA credits myself but I agree wholeheartedly with Rickyjo that you can bang them out in no time from what I've heard. Here are a couple of links to some good info here on the forum. The last one has an exceptional good post by bricabrac with tons of FEMA info.
Hope this helps you. Oh, and they're free!!! Let the happy dance begin.

bricabrac, I was thinking about taking graduate courses at TESC which is why I was assigned to a Graduate advisor. She still takes care of all my changes to my BA evaluations. It sounds like you're one of the lucky ones that got credit for both Statistics classes. Was this pretty recent? And are you a current student at TESC? I get the feeling though if I had told the academic advisor that sent me the TESC conversions in early December to place the Business Statistics on my Evaluation I would've been lucky too. Now I'm a day late a dollar short.

Now, I'm convinced its the degree program. BTW I felt the same regarding getting it all on the transcripts before something changed.
Not to worry as jade mentioned the FEMA credit is fantastic! They take on average 2 hrs each. You will spend most of your time searching the answer. You do know how to search in a word or pdf document correct?
